Now, when you start you can't just kill with your fist because that will take ages! And you don't want to do that, there is more likely you will get killed from that mob, so don't do that. If your sword doesn't want to be broken that quickly, this is the hits that it takes to be broken:
Wooden Sword: 60 hits
Golden Sword : 33 hits
Stone Sword: 132 hits
Iron Sword: 251 hits
Diamond Sword: 1562 hits
Obviously, swords are uses to kill mobs and players (if your mean or in PVP, Hunger Games etc) Also, it can be used to break block if you don't have the right tools. Swords can be used for digging stuff to such as:
Cobwebs, Jack O' Lantern, Pumpkins, Melons, and Cocoa Beans. If you mine it with a sword it gives you that item. You can break any block (except Bedrock and really hard blocks) but it won't give you that items after you broke it, unfortunately.
If you want a enchantment with your super powerful swords. these are the enchantments:
Sharpness: Deals more damage because it is sharp!
Smite: Deals with mobs more quickly except from Spiders, Cave Spiders and Silverfish.
Bane of Athropods: Deals with Spiders, Cave Spiders and Silverfish
Knockback: When you hit a monster, it goes FLYING!
Fire Aspect: When you hit a mobs, fire is on them.
Looting: When kill it drops more stuff and drops more rare drops from a mob.

Bows are good for killing long ranged and explosive mobs such as Skeletons, Creepers and also the Ender Dragon. It is also good for killing faraway mobs. The only mob that can't be hurt by bows is Enderman. When you shoot an arrow at them they teleport away and don't get hurt. Not a very good way to kill them and you will never kill them anyway!
You wanna know the enchantments for Bows, so here they are:
Power: When you shoot a mobs, only 2 or 3 hits will kill them!
Punch: When you shoot a mob it goes flying!
Flame: When you shoots arrows, guess what! THEY HAVE FIRE!!
Infinity: You can have Infinite arrows and you only need 1. It will be Infinite until the bow breaks!
Enchantments for all weapons:
Unbreaking: It lasts longer!
