Pearl and her mother were out for brunch, Pearl silently sipping her coffee as she waited for her mother to come back from ordering their lunch. A tray was placed in front of the pale teen. She looked up and smiled at her mother, thanking her for lunch as her mother sat down. "Now, Pearl we need to talk." Pearl nodded and folded her hands no matter how tempting her salad looked she kept her eyes on her mother ready to listen. "I know you won't want to hear this but..I've been called into work again, I know I said I wouldn't go in if it was a longer trip but I need to." She paused and searched her daughters face for anger but she found none. Yes Pearl was sad but her mother did love her work. So she smiled, "No, it's okay. I understand, mom." She said talking another sip of her coffee, which was slightly becoming cooler. Her mother smiled. "Thank you, Pearly." Pearl opened the lid to her salad and placed the French dressing on her salad.[[[[[[[[[[]]]]]]]]]]]]]]
Pearl woke up early to say her goodbyes to her mother, still in her Pj's she hugged her mother. "Ooh morning breath." Her mother teased and Pearl giggled. "I'll see you soon, Pearly. I'll be sure to call when I get to my hotel room, Your father will be home late so tell him I love him." The pale teen nodded and gave her mother one last hug. She watched the door close and yawned. Maybe she would go back to bed- knock knock. Who would come this early? She knew exactly who, she chuckled and ran her lanky fingers through her messy hair attempting to make it look less messy but failed. She opened the door to see her best friend. She smiled as she looked up to Garnet, literally. Garnet was at least a foot taller than Pearl. "Mornin'." Garnet said with her thick accent, she walked in as the smaller of the two stepped aside so Garnet could enter. "Good morning, Garnet. Coffee?" Garnet smiled as she sat down on the leather couch. "You know it." She said shooting finger guns. Pearl chuckled and walked into the kitchen. The tiled floor cold against her bare feet sending shivers down her spine. She poured what was left from what her father had drank this morning. Still warm, thanks dad. Pearl walked back to the room where her friend was and handed her the mug. Garnet sipped the plain black coffee and looked at Pearl, Who was obviously in deep thought as she looked forward. "Pearl?" Pearl shook her head coming back to reality. "Hm?" Garnet set the cup of coffee on the table in front of them. "Somethin' on your mind?" The older girl asked, well she was only two years older than Pearl. Pearl looked back at her friend. "Just..my mother went back to work, I tried not to show her I was upset so I told her she should go." She said as she began to pick at her cuticles. Bad habit. Garnet adjusted her tinted shades and frowned. "Thought she wasn't going back in." Pearl shifted, she knew Garnet was a little frustrated now. "Me too, but they really needed her this time. Besides my dad will be home tonight, so I won't be completely alone." Pearl chuckled. Garnet simply replied with a 'Mh.' The older girl took another sip of her coffee. Bitter, just How she liked it. Pearl didn't like the silence, even though that's how Garnet was. Silent. She got up and stretched, her pajama top slightly showing her stomach as she did so. "Wanna watch a movie?" Pearl said as she pointed to her room. Garnet looked at her friend, she gave her somewhat of a smile and nodded. She got up and quickly placed her mug in the sink and walked back to pearls bedroom. Pearls bedroom wasn't too small but it also wasn't too big, she had enough room for her bed, desk and dresser which her T.V sat on. She was sitting on her knees as she was looking through her movies, she had two she was deciding on. "What two you lookin' at?" Pearl slightly jumped as she didn't know Garnet was in her room. She smiled as she stood up holding them out. Garnet read the two titles. Nightmare on elm street and Pet sematary. Garnet chuckled shaking her head. "Pearl, you know both of those scare you." Pearl frowned and crossed her arms. "I'm..not scared anymore, and it's broad daylight!" Garnet shrugged and plopped down on Pearls twin sized bed. Pearl put the movie on and sat next to Garnet. Pearl always sensitive to the cold had slipped under the covers. It was January. Garnet knew her friend would get scared anyways so she stayed close. Not even half way through the movie Pearl was already hugging Garnet's arm. Garnet chuckled and held the smaller teen close. "S' okay I got you.' Pearl continued to watch the horrific movie as Garnet had a small smile. Pearl jumped and Garnet tried not to laugh. Things had always been like this, and it was great.
