The Beginning

I was running, sprinting even, through the alleyways of New York. Running away from all the things that pained me. As soon as I turned the corner, I saw the two faces that filled my heart with fear. My Dad, and Liam. Everything felt dizzy as Dad pulled out a gun.

"You don't belong in this world, Alex," he spat. "Take the gun, and shoot yourself." He tossed the gun at me. I refused to pick it up. His breath smelled of alcohol.

Liam cornered me. "Go on Alex," he smirked and brushed his tousled hair back. "I'm bored of you already."

I didn't budge.

"Shoot yourself already!" He yelled, and whacked me around the face.

As soon as I stood up again, he hit me. Dad stood in the corner smirking. I picked up the gun, aimed it at my head and shot.

I woke up with a start. I peered around the room frantically, discovered the coast was clear then pulled myself out of bed. I stumbled into the bathroom. Yes, I thought to myself, I would need an extra dose of pills.

You may think that the nightmares were just nightmares. They weren't. They were memories, well, sort of.

I had a good childhood. I had two loving parents. My life was so perfect. Then everything changed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I walked into the club and spotted my best friend, Chloe. She wasn't hard to miss. She had blonde hair and she always wore bright, neon clothes. Dull colours were a huge no, no to her.

"Chloe!" I waved at her.

She ushered me over and enveloped me in a huge, warm hug.

"Alex! It's so good to see you, I can't remember the last time I saw you out in a club!" She beamed her bright and bubbly smile.

"That's because I'm not the partying type," I mumbled.

"If I were you, I'd be out every night partying! Honestly, I'm so jealous of you! You're so stunning."

I pushed my raven black hair behind me.

"Thank you!" I said.

"So, what can I get for you? A gin, some wine?" She asked.

"Haha, very funny Chloe. You know I don't drink." I laughed.

"It was worth a try!" She mumbled, "All the more for me then!"

She dragged me on to the dance floor where we danced the night away. They had all the latest chart music on like Justin Beiber, The Chainsmokers and all my favorite singers. Eventually when I finally persuaded her to sit down, I saw someone faintly familiar walk into the side bar. It was my cousin, Ivory.

"Ivory!" I yelled. She turned around, suprisingly. I waved her over.

"Come and sit with us!" She edged over and sat down at our table.

"Chloe, this is my cousin Ivory," I said, "Ivory this is one of my best friends, Chloe."

They nodded at each other. Ivory anxiously started to chew on her nails.

"So, Chloe, do you like drama like Alex does?" Ivory asked, trying to make conversation.

"Nope." Chloe sniffed.

"What things are you interested in then?" Ivory asked, again.

"Not a lot." Chloe said. She cast her glare somewhere else.

Gosh, you could cut this tension with a knife.

"Excuse me a second," I said to Ivory, while pulling Chloe out of earshot.

"What's the matter with you?" I said.

"What do you mean?" She asked dumbly.

"Can you at least be friendly with Ivory? Your so cold towards her." I explained.

"I could have sworn I've seen her before, and I'm not getting good vibes from this."

"Yeah, you've probably seen her before on my Facebook timeline or something," I rolled my eyes. "Can you please just try to make her feel welcome?"

Chloe sighed. "All right, then. Whatever makes you happy."

The rest of the night went by in a flash. Chloe is definately not interested in drama, but boy is she good at putting on a little welcoming perfomance for Ivory. After Ivory had said her goodbyes and left, I was given the task of taking Chloe home.

Except I had left my purse inside the club. Stupid old me. I hugged Chloe and put her in a taxi to get home. She was that wasted, she didn't even realise that I wasn't in the taxi with her. Typical old Chloe.

I grabbed my purse and sauntered outside, about to call for a taxi.

Suddenly, I was shoved against the wall with so much force that I started to see stars. Oh no. This cannot be happening.

My abusive ex.

The one in my nightmare.

Liam.
