I tightly held Eliza's hand. It was so nerve-racking, being in the city all by ourselves! Of course, Angelica didn't mind. She always headed out by herself. I wish I could be as brave, even if she can get a bit overwhelming. Still, it was so terrifying.
"Daddy said to be home by sundown," I tugged on Angelica's sleeve.
Angelica tapped me on the nose, "Daddy doesn't need to know!"
I frowned. Brushed off, as usual.
"Daddy said not to be downtown," I protested, this time to Eliza.
"Like I said, you're free to go!" She answered. Why did they always ignore me?
I hid my anger and followed them into the city square. The people noticed us, as usual. Actually, they just noticed Angelica and Eliza, the oldest, wittiest, and most influential.
"Angelica, remind me what we're looking for..." Eliza looked over to the Angelica.
"She's lookin' fo' ME!" a few drunk men passing by responded. I laughed, but they kept their attention on her.
Angelica smugly pushed them away and said, "Eliza, I'm looking for a mind at work!"
"Nothing like summer in the city."
We turned and saw a handsome man behind us. Burr, I think. Angelica joyfully led him off to debate and flirt. She always flirted. Eliza crossed her arms and sighed, but still looked happy. She took my hand and we followed Angelica. Eliza happily listened but didn't add anything to the conversation, like always.
"We hope these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal," Angelica, Eliza, and I quoted together in unison.
"And when I mee-" I started, but I was cut off.
"AND WHEN I MEET THOMAS JEFFERSON?" Angelica proudly shouted, "I'MA GET HIM TO INCLUDE WOMEN IN THE SEQUAL!"
Burr laughed and looked at Angelica, but ignored me, just like everyone else. I tugged on Angelica's sleeve again, "Hey, I was gonna say that."
"Sorry, next time, okay?" Angelica shushed me.
As we walked in the town square, I noticed people fawning over us. Probably because of our rich father.
"Angelica!" a group of women gasped as we walked past. "Eliza!" they added. "And..." they looked a bit confused when they saw me. "Who's this?"
"And Peggy!" I pushed through my sisters. I gleamed, but that soon faded when I saw their expressions. They looked at each other, then looked back at me. A few faked a smile, but I knew they had no idea who I was. My sisters took the spotlight, again, just like any other day.
