9 years later

It had been 9 years from the first time they had discussed about Lucy Heartifilia. The "protector" of this girl had seemed to have lost his magic energy whenever the girl went outside a certain vicinity. Year by year, month by month, the area just kept getting smaller. It seemed to be causing much stress on the elders.

Lucy was as adventurous as any other kid though. As she grew older, she wanted to learn more and more about the world around her. The elders saw her many times sneaking a little stray of the boundary before disappearing again right as the sun rose.

"No!" Lucy refused. "Why can't I go to the festival like the others?" She asked for what seemed like the hundredth time.

Her father, having no reason at all answered in the most vague and childish way anyone could possibly answer "Because" and he just left it there.

"Why can't I just go with my friends? They are all going!" Lucy whined, trying not to sound like she was demanding to go to the festival.

How badly her father wanted to say "It's because today is the dragon king festival, the day when all the dragon slayers were supposed to be brought to Doragon no Sekai. Instead he answered in a booming voice "because I said so."

He then stormed off, leaving his only daughter pouting and frowning as if she was a little kid that didn't get her stuffed little pink fluffy unicorn.

Huffing in annoyance, she turned her own way, walking up to her room and slamming her door.

She was frustrated. Everyone in her school was going. It was almost customary that you would go. Yet, ever since her mother died, her father had disallowed her to go to certain areas in the town, and lately she had been disallowed to even go to school.

Laying in her bed, she stared at the slightly faded glow in the dark stickers that portrayed the stars above.

Reaching a hand into the air, she closed her left eye and stuck her finger out, tracing the Nicola constellation she knew so well.

There were few mages left in the world, the only major kind living being dragon slayers. Other mages were ruled out or killed for they were though to be inferior to the rest of the population.

She climbed off her bed and searched for the dusty box she kept a certain collection of keys in.

Opening the mahogany box she was almost blinded by the radiance of the enthusiastic keys. Ever since the other citizens of the town had started suspecting Lucy as a mage, she had been unable to even open the box that often, yet the temptation was just a little too much for today.

The pent up frustrations always were ceased when she called on her spirits.

"Open the gate of the harp, Lyra" She whispered.

A girl with the body of a harp, no older than Lucy herself was summoned.

"Lucy! You haven't called me in forever!" The animate spirit hugged the so said girl.

"Lyra. can't. breathe." Lucy gasped for air.

"Oh, sorry" The excited girl reluctantly released the suffocating mage as she smiled widely.
