I scrambled out of the room, flinging myself down the stairs and out of the house, barley making it to the edge of the woods before I exploded into an angry bundle of fur and claws. ‘I wanna rake my claws down his backside for causing us that much trouble!’ My wolf snarled in my head. ‘Yeah, but you know we shouldn’t. Though I do agree, it would be pretty damn relaxing.’ With that, I was able to pull away from my anger and turned the rest of my unplanned outing into a patrol.

I ran the north western edge all the way around in a full thirty two mile circle around the house. After determining that all was well on the border, I decided to let myself relax and hunt. Of course, I let my wolf take over for the duration of the hunt. I was mere seconds from taking down a mountain lion when I heard Damon screaming into my head. ‘Carmen! We need help! Now! We’ve got at least a twenty or thirty Wolf assualt team going against us!’ ‘Wait! Did you say Wolf?! Shit!’’ ‘Yes, I said wolf!’ I was already in motion, full on sprinting on the house. By the time I was on scene, the battle was in full swing. Immediatly, I knew that my primary focus was finding and escorting all children from the premesis. There were thirty two, and I needed to get those who were too injured to fight on. I broke through the fighting in the living room, sprinting to the second floor. ‘Maggie! James! Cole! Seal off the entry to the upper floors as best you can. I’m going to find the kids and escort them off the territory.’ With that, I began clearing every room, having older kids form a defensive ring of wolves around the younger kids, who were carrying toddlers and babies. We pushed our way downstairs, to where Malcolm and Fayne had joined the defenders holding the line at the stairs. ‘Listen up, all of you. We’re going to clear a path to the door. I want James, Malcolm, and Fayne to take the rear. Maggie, I want you to take point with me and Cole.’ With that said, we began the sprint to the door. The older kids went wolf and had the younger ones riding on their backs now. I used my fameous “bowling pin strategy” to move four attackers from the doorway. When we had gotten clear of the door, I sent the others on with the kids, spinning around and blocking the door with my feet planted wide. six wolves tried and failed to push through me. I was the Alpha. I would not budge. Slowly, the battle broke apart. wolves were fleeing into the woods. When they were gone, I called the Cole and told him to take the kids to a nearby hotel for the night, then went inside to help the injured.

I phased back and walked in the door, only to find the entire pack gathered around two bodies. I shoved my way to the center of the circle, picking up on Damon’s distress. Mina and Vasile lay dead on the floor. “Oh no.” I murmured on an exhaled breath. I folded to my knees beside Damon and Fayne, wrapping my arms around them both. “Damon, I’m going to find the bastards who did this and kill them.” Fayne threatened. “This will be considered an act of war.” I agreed. “We need to find out who they were and why they went after us.” I added. Damon nodded silently. I felt tears threatening at the corners of my eyes. Mina was the closest thing I had ever known to a mother. “Guys, as bad as this may seem, we need to keep a level head. Right now we need to clean this place up and have it fortified so the children can stay here in safety.” Cole broke in, acting as my Beta. I pulled myself to my feet. He was right. Damon and I, as Alpha pair, would need to keep level heads so we could keep control of the situation. “Anyone who has children, we ask that you stay in the pack house from now until this is resolved. Warriors, I want you to make sure that no wolf leaves this house without a proctetion detail that consists of no less than five wolves, but no more than ten. Understood?” I ordered. “Yes, Alpha.” Damon watched as I got the rest of the pack organized. “Cole, I need you to oversee the patrolling schedule. You need to triple the number of perimiter guards and double the house guards, specifically, I want at least two wolves guarding each child at all times. Understood?” “I’ll get right on it.” I nodded, satisfied. “I myself will oversee the fortifications and the retreival of the children. I want fifty wolves to come with me so we can get this done as soon as possible.” As ordered, fifty wolves went to me, and the other two hundred and fifty or so went with Cole. Damon sent out orders for all of the warlocks, witches, and war mages under his control to meet at the pack house as well. I rented out two eighteen wheel trucks for the trip. We bought twenty thousand pounds of reinforced steel rebar, forty thousand punds of concrete, enough Kevlar sheeting to layer it up in all of the walls, and returned home. I was going to have to go out later to buy replacement windows. If I got my way, the windows would be triple plated one way plexiglass.
