Buzz. Buzz.
I didn't have the energy to grab my phone. But I did anyway. The brightness of my phone hit me hard, blinding me for a moment.
COACH: Game is at 12pm. Be down here ready to warm up by 10.30am
I almost forgot that today was a Saturday. We were playing the Steelers today for the quarter finals. I knew I felt ready. I looked down at my newly strapped shoulder and sighed. I hated that she did this to me, that time and time again I had to come up with excuses if anyone would ask. I wasn't lying exactly, because I told them every single time that it was either a sensitive topic, or that I didn't want to talk about it, and even at times saying that I just had a string of bad luck. Which weren't complete lies... I just didn't need anyone taking pity on me. It was the last thing I needed. I heard my phone buzz again.
REBEL: So was it just fatigue that you said you had lunch today?... Or was it your way of trying to see me again?
ME: I would say yes... But I honestly lost track of everything and forgot today was Saturday.
REBEL: Ouch.
REBEL: I'm still up for some of this delicious lunch you have talked up. You pay for food. I'll cover entertainment.
ME: Really?
REBEL: No. I just sent that last message for fun
REBEL: Of course I meant it.
Who knew Rebel Drake was a comedian, ladies and gentleman. Hardy Har Har.
ME: I wish I could. But it's Game day.
REBEL: You play sports?
ME: I'm not just an academic you know...
REBEL: See still things I don't know about you
ME: But seriously though. I have a game today...
There was a moment of silence.
REBEL: I'll see you on the court, Blake.
ME: We play on a field, Drake.
REBEL: Okay... You got me.
REBEL: I'll see you on the field. I am taking you out tonight though.
ME: Honestly Rebel I can't. I'm working tonight.
REBEL: When do you finish?
ME: 11.
REBEL: Good, you're staying at The Rooftop now right? I overheard you telling the school receptionist that.
ME: You never give up, do you?
REBEL: Not when it comes to you.
ME: Haha very smooth. I need to get going.
REBEL: See you later Anora.
ME: Only if you find the right field Drake.
REBEL: What? No fair.
ME: Deal with it Drake. You didn't think this was going to be easy did you?
I set my phone down and started to get ready for the game. I looked at my strapped shoulder and I looked at the table where the padding shirt was. If I didn't put it on I knew that my shoulder would just get worse and the team can't afford for us to lose. I slowly put it on, instantly hating the feeling of it. I knew it wasn't how I place but for now it was going to have to do. I looked back at my phone wandering. I had diverted all Bethany's messages to a folder on my laptop. Last I checked she had sent a few hundred. I didn't reply to a single one. Could you blame me though?
