Betrayal and Old friends

     •Hannah POV•
     After 1st period, me and Kevin made our way down the halls trying to get through the sea of students to 2nd period. Kevin was talking about something but I zoned out not paying attention to whatever rant he was on now. I spotted Betty and a raven haired girl talking. Who is that?
     "Kevin," his eyes snapped to where I was gesturing to,"whose the girl talking to Betty?"
"She could be new," Kevin suggested. "Let's go say hi."
     Since Kevin was a whole lot taller than my 5'2 form, his legs carried him in front of me arriving at Betty and the mystery girl before me. Yeah, I still haven't had that growth spurt everyone experiences in high school.
     "...A strip club called "The Ho zone," that's all I heard Kevin chime in with and I'm a tad freaked about what they're talking about,"and a tragic gay bar called Innuendo." What the heck? By now I've been placed beside Kevin, wondering what in the world they're talking about. "Friday nights, football games." I decided to add to the conversation, "...and tailgating at the Mallmart parking lot.
     "Saturday is movie night, regardless of what's playing at the Bijou." Kevin finished my sentence, "and you better get there early, because we don't have reserved seating in Riverdale." I noticed what the mystery girl looked like, and can I just say 'dang.' She had dark-raven locks and deep brown eyes. Her fashion sense was pearls and dresses, I automatically knew she was from anywhere in Riverdale. It looks like someone from New York hit her with a bus.
      "...and Sunday nights... thank God for HBO." Kevin had put his arm around Betty and I stood there observing the girl in front of me. "Veronica Lodge, Kevin Keller and Hannah Andrews," Betty introduced us," Veronica's new here, Kevin is..." Veronica decided to interrupt Betty,"gay, thank God," "Let's be best friends." Veronica took a long good look at me and smiled,"You are absolutely gorgeous, I love your shirt." I smiled,"aw thanks!"
     Where have I heard the name 'Lodge'. Wait a diddly darn second! Lodge is like Hiram Lodge, that guy who got arrested for embezzlement and fraud. "Is it true what they say about your das?" Oh my god, Kevin did not just ask that. I hit his chest while Betty gave him an 'are you serious' look, "Kevin, you can't just ask that!"
     Veronica weirdly didn't react as bad as I though she would. "That he's the devil's incarnate?" Wow. I was not expecting that. "I stand by my father." This girl definitely does not mess around. She crossed her arms and asked,"does everyone here know?" I looked down not really wanting to take part in the conversation anymore. The atmosphere was more awkward than that time in 4th grade when my skirt got caught in my underwear as I was turning in my paper to the teachers. Reggie Mantle still teases me about.
     "Wonderful, ten minutes in and I'm already the Blue Jasmine of Riverdale." Veronica started walking away and Betty gave Kevin a look. "What," Kevin asked cluelessly. "Dude!" I blurted as I ran after Veronica and Betty.

    "Oh, and of course there's the Back-to-School semi formal dance this weekend." We came to an abrupt stop as Veronica grabbed my arm. "-Oh! There's the hottie we were with last night, Bets." I looked to where Veronica eyes trailed to and saw my brother in front of us. "Did you just call him 'hot'," I inquired confused as to when she met my brother. "Oh, I'm sorry is he your boyfriend-" I cut her off with my laughing,"You think-" "-Archie is my-" "oh my gosh I'm sorry that's just too funny!" Veronica seemed to be the one confused this time. "He's my brother, Archie Andrews!" She seemed relaxed now," The red headed Angel Elgort is your brother?"
     "Yep, I know everything about him." Kevin laughed with me," I also know about how Betty is my future sister-in law."
    "Is he your boyfriend," she asked towards Betty but Kevin answered at the same time.
" No, he's straight."
-"No, we're just friends."
"In that case, mind putting in a word?" Did she actually think she is getting in the way of my ship? Honey, no. "Since he's your brother and all, I've tried every flavor of boy but orange."
     In my head I was beyond annoyed but on the outside I remained calm. Kevin decided to speak for me,"Actually to clarify, Betty and Archie aren't dating," so I decided to say,"but they are endgame."
We started walking again as Veronica put her arm is mine. "You should ask him to the semi formal then," she said towards Betty.
"She should but I heard it might be getting canceled," I said. "Because of what happened to Jason."
By now, we were already late for 2nd period. I didn't mind, I would trade anything to not be Ms. Grundy's AID. Veronica seems nice, but definitely straight to the point. "They're gonna tell us at the assembly," Kevin said.
"Who's Jason and what happened to him," Veronica asked. Welp, there it is.

The assembly was emotional, to say the least. I saw Jughead across the room on his computer as usual. He's gotten attractive ever since we were kids. Sometimes I miss having those crazy adventures with him.
Cheryl Blossom is, or should I say was, Jason Blossom's twin sister. She's always been the school's queen bee. I'm going to try out to be a River Vixen, only downside is she's the captain. She asked the school board to not cancel the semi formal so now I have to worry about that.
During the assembly, I sat next to my brother and Moose Mason. I've always thought Moose had a crush on Kev. He says he's straight, but come on. Me and him both know that's not true.
Since I skipped being Ms.Grundy's AID, I wondered how much trouble I would get into. She sat on the chairs the staff sat in at the bottom of the bleachers. Glancing down at her, I realized she was already looking up here. But not at me, at Archie. I turned my head to face Archie and he was staring straight back at her. What the heck? Why is she making googly-eyes at Archie?
I broke my gaze from Archie and Ms.Grundy, back to Cheryl. She said something that made everyone clap so I clapped too. That whole Ms.Grundy thing is probably not what I'm thinking. Right?

I'm starving. Thank God it's lunch. I decided to sit with Kevin, Betty, and Archie, the usual. Archie was playing one of his new songs wanting to see how we liked it. It's surprisingly, not terrible. Veronica walked up to our table,"Can I join?" Archie closed his laptop,"Jump on in, girl," I welcomed. She smiled at me,"What are we doing?"
"Listening to one of Archie's songs," Betty said teasingly. "I thought we were going to have to pretend to like it, but it's actually really good," Kevin said about to eat his sandwich. "Same."
Veronica sat down adjusting herself,"wait, that was you singing, something you wrote?" Archie decided to be shy and say,"it's rough."
"No it's great," I said.
Betty nodded her head. "It's incredible,actually, the little snippet I heard." Betty gave Veronica a look only I can recognize. It was the 'back off my man' look. Kevin seemed to catch on.
"Is that your thing,"Veronica asked,"music?" "Are you doing something with it?"
"Yeah, that's the plan," Archie replied. "So, how's your first day going, good?" All I want is my frozen pizza, and that's what I'm gonna get.
"Not to be a complete narcissist," oh no,"but I thought people would be more..."
"Obsessed with you," I finished for her. "Any other year you'd be trending number one, for sure, this year though, is all about Cheryl." Kevin chimed in,"she's trying to win the best supporting Psycho award." Dang, Kev. "For her role as Riverdale High's bereaved Red Widow."
"Hey, I should go I got this meeting with Grundy," Archie said,"and then football tryouts,so." He's acting weird.
"You play football too," Veronica asked,"What don't you do?" She was getting a tad flirty with Archie. I decided to go follow Archie and I stopped him.
"What's up with you," I asked him. He stopped in his tracks and gave me a quizzical look. "Nothings wrong with me," lies," I'm just going to work on music."
"Arch, I'm your twin I can tell when you're lying to me." He said,"I'm not lying."
Whenever he lies he puts his head down so I have him a 'yeah right' look.
"You've been distant lately, we barely ever talk anymore and it's like you pretend Jughead doesn't exist." His head snapped up.
"Woah, what does any of this have to do with Jughead?" I rolled my eyes.
"We haven't talked to him in forever, is that why you're being distant?"
"What? No."
"Or is it Grundy?"
His head went down again, and his eyes flashed an emotion I didn't recognize.
"Listen Han, I got to go, I'll talk to you later."
That was especially weird. He avoided my question about Grundy.
I started walking back to the table, only to see Cheryl interviewing my friends. "Cheryl, do you have anything better to do than mess with my friends?"
She just glared at me. I know something about the Blossom family no one knows, except for Jason. "It's fine Hannah, we were just talking about extracurriculars," Veronica said," Weatherbee wants me to sign up for a few."
Cheryl's eyes popped out of her head and her voice was sickly sweet,"cheerleading, you must!"
"I'm senior captain of the River Vixens," Cheryl said while flipping her hair. Cheryl has somehow always been weirdly nice to me, just rude to my friends. Maybe it's because of that thing that happened with me and Jason in 8th grade. Only my close friends like Kevin, Betty, Archie, and used to be Jughead.
"Is cheerleading still a thing?" There's Kevin again, always with his comebacks. "Is being the gay best friend still a thing," Cheryl glared.
"Some people say it's retro, I say it's eternal and iconic," Cheryl started,"like Hannah's love for my dead brother."
My eyes widened she did not just say that. Veronica looked at me confused, "excuse me," I said my voice sharp.
Veronica could sense the tension so she interrupted," At Spence, I sat at the top of the élites period." "We're in," I said,"Betty you're trying out too."
Betty opened her mouth ready to protest but Cheryl beat her to it," Of course!"
"Anyone is welcome to try out, but Betty's already got so much," Cheryl's eyes trailed to Betty's plate,"on her plate right now, and being a Vixen is kind of a full-time thing, but open to all!" I rolled my eyes she is just annoying.
Cheryl got up, finally about to walk away but she just had to give herself a self-promo. "Follow me on Twitter and I'll do the same," ugh," my handle is @cherylbombshell." She finally walked away.
"Okay. Go ahead and hate on cheerleading, but if hipster prince Harry..." Veronica started but Betty interrupted,"I'd love to be a cheerleader, it would look great on my college applications. But last year, when I tried out, Cheryl said I was too fat." Ouch, I remember that.
"Too season 5 Betty Draper," Kevin input,"it was a great line." I hit his arm,"but, not at all true."
"Well, you're a total smoke show now," I said," I mean it."
"As hot and as smart as you are, you should be the Queen Bey of this drab hive," V said. Kevin raised his eyebrow at that and smiled.
"Oh crap, guys I'm sorry but I have to get to math, I'm practically failing because Mr. Gallagher won't ever round my grade!"

I gathered my food and heard small 'bye's and 'see ya' as I threw away my food and rushed back inside.
