Chapter 5
I told you guys I'm slow..... SORRY !! *SOBS*
"Theodore, time to wake up darling." Rowan cooed, stroking the boy's arm softly. Theodore shifted, his eyes opening blearily. Rowan smiled at him, holding his breath as the little felt the touch of his hand. Instead of getting scared and defensive as the wolf predicted, the little boy snuggled deeper into the covers, seemingly deciding he wasn't awake yet. Delighted, Rowan chuckled,
"It'll be dinner time in a few minutes, darling. Aren't you hungry?" The wolf didn't need Theodore to voice his answer, for no sooner had the question left the man's lips did the boy's stomach growl loudly in protest of it's empty state.
Taking another chance, Rowan slowly brought his hand up and stroked Theodore's head. The boy stiffened at the touch, but soon relaxed again when it became apparent there was no danger in the act. Blearily Theodore opened his eyes, his mismatched orbs catching Rowan's deep blue. The man kept petting the boy's hair as he peeled the covers away from Theodore.
After slowly coaxing the little sleepy head out of the bed he got him into new diapers and a newly bought outfit, pastel shorts and a t-shirt. Then it was off to the kitchen for some much needed food for them both. The evening sun peaked through the clouds in through the window, casting the room in a warm golden glow. Theodore was much more awake as he was carried in and saw the newest addition standing by the table.
"How do you like your new chair?" he asked, carrying Theodore closer.
The delivery van had come just after Ian left and brought the furniture into the house, with strict instructions from Rowan to be quiet so as to not disturb the boy. Much to Rowan's surprise the furniture came ready to use. The store's employees had already put together everything before transport. Rowan could happily use the time he would otherwise spend putting together all of their purchases, with Theodore instead.
Guiding the little boy's legs through the openings, he got Theodore seated in his new chair. The boy tentatively touched the wooden surface, inspecting the chair. Rowan turned to bring the food over, letting his little become accustomed in his seat. Sitting down, he gently sat Theodore's bowl of porridge on the tray.
"Do you wanna try feeding yourself?" he asked, holding out the little spoon towards the boy. Theodore looked uncertain, peeking through his brown locks. Giving a small nod he took the spoon, holding it awkwardly in his fist, looking at it as though he'd been given a challenge. Rowan smiled and leaned over to fix the boy's grip, turning the spoon down toward the bowl. After a few more seconds Theodore scooped his first spoonful. His eyes widened and in seconds Rowan was completely forgotten as the boy scarfed down his food as best he could. Happy with the reaction the wolf sat back to enjoy his own food, keeping an eye on Theodore all the while.
Rowan learned Theodore wasn't a clean eater that meal. I'll have to get him a bib, he thought as he looked the boy over. A big bib... How his little had managed to get porridge not only on his hands, clothes and in his hair, but behind his ears during his meal, Rowan had no idea. He'd kept a close eye on the boy throughout the meal and at no point had Theodore touched his ears. The magic of messy eating, I guess. So much for dressing him in his new clothes. Rowan released a baffled chuckle.
He grabbed a soft rag and wiped the worst of the mess from Theodore's face. The he rose and brought their dirty plates and utensils to the sink.
"Well, messy baby, I think someone needs a bath." he said, Theodore's big eyes watched him as he lifted the boy out of the chair and made his way upstairs again. Theodore seemed aware of the mess he'd made, keeping his hands to his chest as he was carried up. The action only dirtied Theodore's shirt more, but the boy was being considerate of Rowan's own clothes and the wolf couldn't feel anything but pride that his little boy showed such care for him.
