We were running. Again. I yelled at Ean to run faster. We have to get out of here. We have been running for the past two years. Ean, my seven year old brother, attracted them again. He just had to show off. Ean is special. He can hear thoughts from other people, and send thoughts back. It freaks them out, and would be funny, if it didn't attract so much attention to us. I am special too. I get visions when I make contact with people. Their entire lives flow through my head as images or little clips. I am also telekinetic, that means I can move things with my mind. Ean complains all the time about how it is unfair that he is stuck with one trait and I have two. That is what we call our special skills, traits.

The Spears are hunting us down. We can apparently be of great use to Hell. The devil wants us all for himself, before the Halos can get to us. We don't want to be owned by Satan, or the Halos. We aren't exactly sure who to trust and what is wanted from us. So, we run. Run from them both.

We are in Northern Florida, in Pensacola. Not many places to hide here, but we were short on time when running from Virginia, where they last found us. We go into Rooms To Go, and hide until night so we have a bed to sleep on instead of the streets. I do my best to provide food and a place to sleep. We go to Walmart and offer to help people carry their groceries to their cars, then when they aren't looking we stash some of the food into our pockets for later. Its a great trick.

We were leaving the beach when the Spears spotted us. There were three of them. I threw in a couple of good punches, and Ean kicked the crap out of a guy. I high-fived him on the way Walmart. It is now ten o'clock and we have found a forclosed house to stay in for the night. Ean takes the master bedroom and I let him. He is a seven year old run away, he should get some good things in life.

Night Delana!

Goodnight Ean.

Chapter 2

I awoke with a start. I feel all disoriented and for a moment I don't know where I am. Then I remeber. Forclosed house off of N Davis Hwy. I roll out of bed to go wake Ean up. When I get to the master bedroom he isn't there. I run down the hallway calling out his name. "Ean! Ean! Ean!"

I am in the bathroom Delana. Chill.

I take a moment to find the bayhroom and sure enough, there he is. Inspecting himself in the mirror.

"Don't tell me to chill! You could've been killed or kidnapped or any number of things little man!"

"Delana, I know how to handle myself, you tought me how. I won't end up like Mom and Dad I promise."

I turn away at the mention of my parents. I miss them so much. They were killed about a month after we found out we had traits. We were out having a picnic together when they got attacked by ravenous wolves. Ean talked them into leaving us alone with his trait. That day is forever etched into my memory. Or as others might say, I am scarred for life.

Ean and I gather what little belongings we have and leave the house. Maybe for good, maybe not. We are planning on going to New Orleans, Lousiana. I have talked to several people and they say it is beautiful. And crowded. Perfect.

Today we are going to get lots of food ok? And we will need your charm to get some money to ride the bus.

Okay!

Ean is a great kid. He always has a bounce in his step, it is very rare to see him upset or angry even with the life we live. I sure wish I could be him.

"Delana, I think that women may need some help with her grocceries!"

"Why you are quite right Ean! Lets go!"

We go up to the women and ask if she needs help. She is short and looks to be in her mid-thirties wearing dark skinny jeans, a holister shirt, gold strapped sandals, and a light layer of make-up. Shes pretty. The women accepts our help and we start to load her car up. I snag a cute top-i so need a new one-a box of hugs, some chips, and cookies. Ean grabs cheese dogs, some soda, a few lunchables, and kool-aid.

Good job Ean.
