say hi to the readers: Salutations and good morning!
What you would liked to be called in the interview:
Audrey
1) How long have you been on wattpad?
I think I first joined in October/November of last year, though there was a bit of a hiatus between now and then.
2) How did you discover it?
I had tried Mibba, and I had tried Quizilla, but all of the above completely zapped my muse and were a bit sub-par/wasn’t focused on the writing aspect, so I legitimately just put “online writing community” into google and clicked aroud a bit.
3) Any wattpad thoughts?
So far, so good! I’m getting feedback, getting reads, and it hasn’t irked me to the point of quitting yet. I like it a lot, so far, in spite of read-for-read/comment swap culture.
4) Would you rather read or write? Why?
However selfish it may be… I’d rather write. Reading is great, as it offers me inspiration, but at the end of the day writing is a practice of creation, and because I don’t have the patience/ability to draw up blueprints for buildings, writing is my way of watching my thoughts come to life.
5) Why did you choose wattpad compared to other sites?
Honestly, because the other sites aren’t as genuine. I was on both Quizilla and Mibba, and neither of them were as focused on the writing aspect; it was another social network to many of the members there. I wanted to be in the company of writers, which could not be said of my company on Quizilla and Mibba.
6) Have you ever written books on other sites?
Not exactly, as my muse died out quickly after the first few chapters without any comments/feedback.
7) Anything you think could improve wattpad?
I’d say it’d be hard to fully change the idea of read-for-reads, as technically they’re completely fair and an easy compromise to satisfy two people after the same goal. Though I’m not too fond of the concept, I understand/accept it, so I suppose I can’t complain about it. Apart from that, I have no other suggestions!
8) Do you have any books in the Watty Awards?
I’ve contemplated putting my pet story in, but I don’t think it’ll happen; I need it to be more established first.
9) Do you personally know anyone that has written any books on wattpad? If so did they have a successful experience?
I’ve chatted with other members of the site who have all had fairly successful experiences.
10) Tell us about one of your stories?
My only story at the present would best be described as a “coming of age” story. It centers around a nineteen year old girl who matured too quickly after dealing with an alcoholic mother and a father that moved away to live with his mistress. She finally secured an apartment with two friends, moved out of the house, and is finally happy in learning to take care of herself (rather than constantly tending to others) when her mother elopes and calls her father to invite him back into their daughter’s life. It’s the girl’s journey towards confronting the damage and hardships her parents put her through while pushing to break the cycle of her too-helpful habits.
The Fun(ner) questions
1) Whats your preferred pizza?
My preferred pizza would definitely be Hawaiian.
2) Favorite color?
I’m a fan of the greenish blues, as of late.
3) Favorite wattpad character?
In LittleGirlBlue’s book L.U.S.T. there’s a character named Delena who immediately caught my attention – though all the girls that tell her story are well developed.
4) Best wattpad book?
Thus far, I’ve been extremely impressed with a book called ‘Escape the Titanic’ by PertweesSon 5) Favorite song? or band.
I could never pick a favorite song… But I absolutely love the Arctic Monkeys.
6) Favorite author? (not on wattpad)
I’m a huge fan of Chuck Palahniuk and Kurt Vonnegut – it’ll be one of them.
7) Favorite book? (not on Wattpad)
Hmmmm… Probably Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut.
8) Words you absolutely adore!
Scrupulous, crepuscular, albeit, solipsism, asterisk… the odd words of the world.
9) Words you HATE!
Ointment. Or other words with the ‘oi’ sound.
10) Whats your favorite animal?
An okapi. Zebra + deer = something that really exists.
(I Added a picture to the side and did research...it is a species related to a giraffe)
11) Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Definitely a dog person – and this is a trait that I shamelessly project onto my characters…12) Finnish the story in 15 sentences or less! Once upon a time all the fish swam in the deep blue water gliding effortlessly through its swift currents. But one fish fell short of their skill, she had a long lanky tall with two huge fins on the end of her tail. She often pondered about her ugly long tail and create parables in her head on how she became this way such as....(your turn to write...) … a near-tragic occurrence that she had long since repressed, and remembered only through interpretive nightmares: perhaps there was an infamous hook that snagged her tail fin. And perhaps said hook began dragging her towards the surface. Yes, yes, the fish began to recall. It was a terrifying experience, and one that would have been painful if she had not been numbed by fear. However murky the picture in her tiny fish brain, she could feel waves of recollection crash over her, and a current of realization rush between her gills and through her very core.
There had been a hook, and the end had been nigh; the surface was approaching, and soon she would be captured by the light, the air, the horrors from above. Friends, from her school, from her family, from before she was physically defected, had shared her terror, and glided into action – anything to save one of their own from the lurid thoughts that haunted their little fish dreams. They latched onto their poor, captured friend (because in this artist’s interpretation, fins serve equally well as hands), and they tugged against the force of the hook with everything they had in them. The poor girl cried out in shock as the monster from above and her devoted friends played tug-of-war with her – and that’s when it happened. She began to stretch.
It was her tail that grew into an elongated, different version of what it previously was, and she was silenced in wonder as she watched. By the time her friends had stopped the wrath of the hook, detached her from her horrible fate, and carried her back down to the safety of the depth, her tail was morphed beyond repair. And in the sheer terror of it all she had forgotten, until now. Now, when she wore a smile, recalling the tale of her tail with fear, surprise, and above all, fondness: the story of her present form was nothing but on of friendship and survival. Her awkward movements through the waters were not something to be self-conscious of, but rather something to wear proudly.
