I joined my office very soon and it was all going very well. Ishan had found himself a new girlfriend. After we had a long party celebrating it and teasing Ishan enough about his girlfriend I came home. "Welcome, Mr In Demand." Maa said.

Shit.

Did I mess anything up? I wondered. But before I could reply, she laughed.

"Arey. Pagol chhele. Why are you so scared? I was just referring to your female fan following." She giggled.

I was a little startled. "Why--What happened?"

"There was this girl. She called atleast fifty time since morning. Said she did not find you on your phone. What on earth do you do? She was yearning to talk to you. Jao. Call her back." She said, and put on her spectacles to read the newspaper. Maa read the newspaper at night after all her chores were done and Baba had gone off to his room to mind his own business. I nodded and quickly took out my phone guessing who this girl was.

I was right.

76.

Yes. 76 missed calls, and I had my phone on silent all along.

I immediately dialed back.

She picked up after two rings. "Yes Sir. You remember me?" she said, sarcastic.

"Sorry Sorry Rupsha--I mean, I was so caught up--My phone was on silent please listen--"

"Yes I get all your excuses. You do not love me."

"THAT IS NOT TRUE!"

"Why didn't you pick up then? How do I know you did not do it on purpose and were not busy with someone else?"

"Do you not trust me that much? I am not cheating on you."

She seemed to love that statement. "I know." She smiled. I could feel she smiled although I could not see her.

"Muah." I said.

"Never cheat on me, okay? Muah."

"I won't."

"Thik toh?"

"Haan."

"Promise koro."

"Promise, love."

I had promised her that day.

"Soooo... what were you doing all day?"

"First you tell me why you called."

'Ahh..to call you over for a party." She said.

"Party? Why?" I asked, curious.

"Ohh you know, I am getting married so an engagement party." She said as though it was so obvious.

I almost choked. "WHAT?!?!?!?!?!" I asked, baffled.

"Haan, I am getting married toh." She repeated.

"Rupsha are you kidding me?"

Rupsha giggled. "Hee hee. I just wanted to see your reaction." She giggled again.
