SIDDHARTHA

I had three copies to submit within one day of work. It was so hectic. Basically, a journalist does not only make gossip. At times, in fact EVERY SINGLE TIME he or she has to work day and night to make news to hook readers to the page. It is not as easy as saying "it is a rumour these media people are so jobless." Oh, we are anything but "jobless".
I am in a very mood today since morning. Ronodeep decided to get a stupid stray cat in the house to feed him milk as though our house was not dirty enough. Then, I left my tie at home, and I cannot even make a tie myself. Thirdly, my boss is on leave because her 18 year old daughter is throwing a farewell party, as she is passing out of school. In other cases I would be delighted that my boss is not in office. But it is pressure time. I am having to do even his bit of the work.

So naturally, all these being the causes, the course was not very pleasing. When Rupsha texted me, I didn't reply. I was too busy. Besides, I found atleast 13 spelling mistakes in the copy written by one of my sub editors. "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE? Is this a place to gorge on samosas and get 13 spelling mistakes?" I screamed at them glaring at the samosas. I had had nothing since morning. "Sid da..."
"NO EXCUSES!!!!" Ishan stopped hearing my voice and held my hand. "Sid?" he asked. "Correct every single mistake. I do not want to see a single syntax error either." I said sternly, and walked off. Ishan followed me. "What's wrong?"
"Can't you see?" I answered. "I definitely can. Rupsha fought?" he asked.
"No" I said ans quickly rummaged through my laptop bag to find my phone. I hadn't answered her message and neither did I call her. I had no charge. My phone was off. "Ishan charger" I said. Ishan handed me his charger. We had the same phone. We bought it together. I put my phone on charge and switched it on. I had a few messages from Rupsha.

"Oi."
"Where are you?"
"Good afternoon."
"."
"Siddhartho?"
"Sorry if I disturbed. Busy?"
":)"

"I am fine. Sorry was busy" I typed back and sent.
She immediately called me back.

"Siddhartho, what happened?" she asked. Her calm voice made me smile.
"Nothing." I answered.
"No. Something happened."

"Rupsha, you don't worry dear. It's alright. Just a little stressed."

"Please don't take so much stress. It will harm your health." she said, concerned.

"Yes babe."

"No babe." she reminded.

I laughed. She giggled.

"Please come today? You sound so upset... Please?"

I kept quiet. For a long time. She waited.

"I will." I replied.

That night I left office at 1 am. But I wanted to see her. I texted. "Are you still awake?"

I got no reply, which left me wondering whether I should at all go. She might have just slept. I still decided to give a visit. I climbed up her ladder and jumped down into the balcony. It was dark. The room was completely dark - and I could hear the spinning of the fan. She was asleep. I opened my shoes and tiptoed into my room slowly when two hands held me from the back and pulled me to one corner. "WH---" the hands pressed my mouth so I could not shout. I heard Rupsha's giggle.
I kept quiet, realizing this was some kind of a prank. "Rupsha..." I whispered. She left my hands and removed her hand from my mouth. I laughed. "Were you trying to kidnap me?" I laughed again.
"No, I was just trying to scare you!" she laughed. "Like you always do!" I said.

She smiled. "Come..." I sat on the bed. I laughed again. Rupsha had food ready for me. Paratha and chicken. I was so hungry I quickly gobbled up the food. Rupsha watched me eat. She stroked my back. "Slow..." she said. I slowed down. "Thank you girl." I said.
"Why are you thanking ME?" She stressed on the last word.
"Because I should." I smiled. "You are the only good thing that happened today." I said.
"Really?"
I nodded.
"Always for you." She said and kissed my cheek. I grinned.
I was confused with what Fate wanted. Our visits went on to grow more and more... We started meeting almost every night. I was not sure she still wanted to get back with me. I could not climb up to her house for the rest of my life. I tried my best to comprehend what Fate wanted. But I failed. Again.
