Le Meutre De Masse

The rain hammered down relentlessly as the four boys reeled from the shock of hearing a gunshot in the forest. Surely Exo had been killed?

"Don't go looking for him," said Nerpato solemnly "we could all get killed, we need to hurry back to camp, before we get tracked down."

The others agreed quietly, and they swiftly retraced their steps back to camp. Several times they heard noises behind them, causing them to start with fear.

"We really need to get out of here," said Siggy in a panicky tone.

"I agree," Nerpato nodded "Drop the wood, let's run."

Adrenaline took over as the boys tore through the forest, trying to keep grip on the slippy mud, and vaguely following their original footsteps; now beginning to wash away with the amount of rain.

It didn't take long for them to reach the camp, and at first they couldn't believe their eyes; the fire had been doused in the rain, leaving a charred black mess of wood, but the main difference which struck them was the bodies. Every single person that had been here when they left; sprawled across the floor, gunshot wounds riddling their torsos and heads.

The four boys were dumbfounded, in a dreaded silence they checked on the bodies; none had survived.

"Just picking us off, one-by-one," Nerpato mumbled to himself.

After the shock had sunk in Siggy called them together.

"We can't stay here," he said "They've obviously waited to ambush them here, and they were planning to kill all of us out in the forest."

"I agree we need to leave," said Jonathan, "But where?"

"Same as we did when we arrived, head into the forest, as far away as we can from here, then find some shelter from the rain, and camp."

"Sounds like the best we've got," Thomas agreed.

So they set off quickly, the rustles and movements emanating from the forest greatly unnerving them.
