He'd not slept. But had still set the alarm for 2.30 a.m., the relentless invasive beeping of his phone a reminder of what he was doing. No going back he told himself. They would be together again and he could hold her in his arms forever. He'd only held her twice. And on neither of those occasions had she even been alive.

Born asleep.
Fetal death.
Her heartbeat stopped before she was out. Nurses panicking, Linzi screaming, doctors bursting in. It was all a blur. He remembered little of the actual events but it was those brief fleeting memories he did have that had brought him here.
