Jade
A little over an hour later and I still felt warm and fuzzy over the extremely warm welcome back I received from everyone on the force. They were all so loving, so happy to see me again though I just had been absent for five days. I appreciated all the love and I honestly couldn't ask for better people to work with. They thought my return was cool, too, since I came straight from an armed robbery/hostage situation where I faced the armed robber with only my baton to protect myself with. Now I didn't take credit for how it all turned out. Jesy was the one who should get all the praise and attention. After all, she was the one who ended everything by shooting him, rescuing both me and Danielle. All I did was talk to him. Without Jesy, we'd either still be at the crime scene or I'd be dead. He would've stabbed me if she hadn't come as fast as she did. So Jesy was the hero today.
"Hey, Thirlwall, chief Thompson wants to see you in his office."
"Thanks, Lo."
I put the case file I was working on back in its place, then I got up from my comfortable office chair and headed straight to my boss's office. Getting there, the first thing I noticed was that he seemed happy. Which was strange, because chief Thompson was the most emotionless, harsh, cold person on the entire force. He never smiled or showed happiness unless something really good had happened.
Maybe it wasn't so much of a mystery as to why he acted like he didn't have a heart. He'd been on the force for over 38 years. He'd seen things, experienced things, I thought only existed in nightmares. Fifteen years ago, he witnessed a family of seven get slaughtered in their home. The kids were stabbed to death, whereas the parents were tortured. Two years after that, he saw a woman blow up her husband. He had to pick up the pieces after the woman was arrested. Just last year, he saw his own daughter die. She was shot dead, the bullet went straight through her heart. She died within a second.
There were 48 police forces in the United Kingdom in total (45 territorial forces and 3 special forces). Just in London, there were two forces. Every single officer and person who worked within law enforcement knew who chief Thompson was. Everyone had huge respect for him. No one had ever had the guts to defy him. I respected him as well. To be honest, I'd kind of been afraid of him since the moment I laid eyes on him. He'd proved several times he's not the right man to mess with. Do him wrong or disobey him and you'd live to regret it.
"Hi, chief, you wanted to see me" I said politely.
"That's true. How are you doing?" He asked calmly.
"Pretty good, actually. Me chest still hurts, but other than that I'm good" I replied sincerely.
"Sounds great to hear. You scared us, Thirlwall" he chuckled.
"I did?" I asked, surprised.
"You did. We thought we would lose you" he said.
"Well, you didn't. I'm here, pretty much alive" I smiled.
"You are. But, are you sure you're feeling well enough to go back to work?" He asked.
"Yes, sir" I said confidently.
"Terrific!" He exclaimed happily.
He threw his hands up in the air and leaned back in his office chair in leather, with a smile playing on his lips. He didn't look as scary as he usually did. That faint smile suited him well.
"Did you want anything else, sir?" I asked politely.
"Well, officer Nelson and officer Bushnell arrested Kevin Lahey yesterday - the man who claims he's working for Sam and the same man who hurt you. He's in interrogation room three. The questioning begins in ten minutes. You and officer Nelson are holding it" he said.
