Introduction
Almost 200 years into the future the earth has ran out of oil and fossil fuel leaving the humans at a loss for energy and no way to stop the increasing destruction of the atmosphere. When the suns radiation became to great for our original way of life humanity was faced with a decision, to live in the new forests created by the radiation or live in city's of iron powered by solar energy. Most chose the iron city's but there were a few who chose forest life. Those few were sheltered from the social life of the city people. But when the sun starts to kill the forest's one girl must do something never done before, cross the border into city life to save the life of others. If she cant prove to the government that her people can adapt they will all be killed.

The newcommer
Most people would say that choosing forest life is stupid or Savage compared to the new city's with there advanced technology and amazing buildings but you could say I think differently. The forest canopy's are my home and the forest floor is my village. I'm Owl, no not a owl my name is Owl. I live in the village of Mawayha, May for short. My parents passed when I was young. I live with my grandmother now, she said I was named Owl because of my round pale face and abnormally white hair. Gran used to tell me stories of the world before the great sun burst, how people would leave there home just to spend a few days in the old forests instead of being separated and shunned because they wanted to go there. If only that was today, instead of our happy but uneventful village life. Well it was uneventful until the newcomer's came.
I laid in the branches of the ever oak tree. It was around midnight , my usual wake up time. I shifted so I could see the Bright stars. sometimes a star would fly through the air then I could make a wish to my parents. " OOOOWWWLLL face, get your tookis to the field it harvest time." Gran yelled at me. Because I am too small for more exciting village jobs I am stuck in the field harvesting the night time bloomers, plants that bloom only at night. " Comin gran" I yelled back. I got up and leaped to one branch then another until I was practically flying from tree to tree. Then I was at the hanging field, a series of vines hanging from the trees. They held fruits and flowers. There on his usual perch sat wide eyed Twitter, my owl ( and only true friend ) was sitting there chirping happily at the sight of me. He flew over onto my shoulder and nuzzled my cheek softly. "time for work Twit" I said and leaped onto a vine. I continued to swing from vine to vine until I got to the night bloomers. I swung over to the fruits and held one still attached to it's vine out for Twitter to cut off. We continued on like that for hours until all the fruit was on the forest floor for the collectors to pick up and sell. We swung ( and flew) back to the tree house were my Gran was waiting for me with some tea. "Hello Owl face, and twitter" she said warmly. " Hi gran" I said taking a cup of tea from her hand. I started to walk to my bed room when gran said " honey, at two you need to go down to the market and sell those herbs we grew last week." she said happily. No way in the great pit of hell did she just force me to be around PEOPLE. I am not socially awkward or shy but I just hate people, OK not hate but people are not always my social priority. I sighed and walked to my room thinking of ways to have my revenge on gran. I walked into my wooden room and climbed up into my hanging vine bed while Twitter flew onto my cotton pillow. We slept for two hours together until gran woke me up . "get the heck out of my room Tim" I yelled. " Tim died honey it's gran, and wash out your mouth on your way to the market." she said angrily. Gran rushed out the room with her black hair flying around her dark green dress. Tim was my only human friend until he slipped into a river. No one found the body so he was labeled dead. I got up and saw twitter on my pillow cooing softly. I took off my dirty shirt and put on a light green button up jacket and leaf jeans. I got out my sun proof purse and gently laid twitter there with my herbs. "bye gran" I yelled then walked over to the big open window and jumped out into the forest below. I hoped through the trees until I found the market.
The market is an open space full of crowded tents and carts full of food. the market is at the edge of the border. The border is the fence separating us from the city. City or Solar people can switch over to our life (as if that happens) but we can't go to the city unless it is a government visit or a legal switch saying we have earned switching rights. I swung down into the crowd of tanned people. I hate people because at the age of 16 I haven't gotten a single tan like every one else or grown any taller than when I was 13. I shuffled around in the crowd until I found doctor Peters medicine stand. The doctor has a wiry gray beard and wild red hair. He wore his white lab coat and baggy pants. He smiled at me. I said nothing. He sighed " you know we humans don't bite" he said. I rolled my eyes and gave him the herbs for the money. Twitter flew out of the bag then ducked back in at the sight of the sun. If only I could do the same thing. You may be thinking well where is the excitement, the life changing person. well wait. Please :)
At that moment the fence opened and everyone panicked. When the fence opens it is never ever good. My blue eyes got even wider than normal and the doctor grabbed my arm and pulled me into the booth. For once a human companion came in handy. We got on the floor and hid there in silence. Then the gun shot. A sound that took out my parents and gave me my name. If it weren't for the gun shot to my spine I would be healthy and tanned and have normal black hair like everyone else. of course lead poisoning from a gun shot can take those things away. Especially if you got shot at the age of five. "Listen up you slimy maggots this is a wake up call. Your little tanned sorry arses are dying. The forests around the earth are dying out by the second and you are next." No way no,no,no. This is'nt happening. We're all going to die. I peeked out to see five men standing in gray suits. The one who was speaking was scarred and had a buzz cut. Every one else had some sort of hat on covering there faces in a shadow. " To save your savage souls you all need someone to prove your worth. We have made DNA tests to see which one of you bastards would do best in the city enviorment." he paused for effect. At least I stay, who in there right mind would actually chose the baby who nearly died of lead poisoning for this job." the city newcomer is Owl Barrington age 16 sex female" he growled. This cant be happening.
