the news released the letter to our local news outlet the next morning. the fifth day back from winter break:
"On January fifth Oxias Agnes committed suicide. he left four notes. One for his mother and father, one for his little brother, one for a girl named Nevaeh, and one that was to be released to the public. This is the handwritten letter he wrote."
'dear everyone,
i made you all hate nevaeh eldridge because of my assumptions and fear of her rejection. i've hurt her in so many ways and caused her so much pain because of my own insecurities and distrust. she is a kind, smart, beautiful, and talented person who deserves much more than I could ever give her and what i did give her. and i wish i could've made things right with you, nevaeh. i dirtied her name and ruined her image so bad that even her own family began to look at her differently. i'm so sorry for all the hurt i've caused you, for ruining your life. i know you hate me but i hope you can forgive me and that your life gets better without me messing it up more than i already have. i love you so much.

I hope this young lady can find it in her heart to forgive him for whatever wrongs he has done. And it's terrible that he thought that he had to take his own life in order to make people forgive him. This has taken a terrible toll on oxias' family, friends, and this communtiy."
the news switched to a different topic and my mother sitting next to me looked in my direction to see me choking back a sob.
she just stared at me until she finally said four words i've needed to hear for so fucking long.
"i'm so sorry, baby."
then i let it out, then and there.
and once the tears started, they didn't stop.
