Chapter One

I kept staring at the field. I couldn't help it. Usually the soccer field was my home, but right now it felt like a stranger.
"Come on Ali! We don't have time for you to fix your hair and all that crap" my brother cried.
I scoffed. Like I would waste time doing that. Yet, my insecurities started flooding out as I walked up to the team. The boys were all staring at me, and the coach was eying me closely. I knew all of them of course. Some were my brother's friends, others I'd hung with when I attended my brothers soccer parties. I never expected to go to one as an actual part of the team.
"You know the drill. Mason show your sister  what to do" the coach instructed.
The boys started running to the sideline where poles were set up. I looked at my brother expectingly but he just glared and went with the rest of them.
"Ali?" I turned around.
"Oh, uh hi Spencer" I said.
"Just follow my lead" he said. I was grateful for his kindness and we made or way over to the poles. He started warming up, doing Frankensteins, gallops, lunges, etc. I caught on and was doing Okay. Once we finished we stretched. I felt a little awkward for my shorts were short and rose a little while I did. especially during the duck squat, possibly giving the guys a glimpse of my underwear.
After about an hour the coach decided we'd scrimmage. Alex and Mason were captain. I knew what was coming- last pick.
"Spencer"
"Ian"
"Drew"
"Aaron"
"Ali" my head shot up as Alex called my name. He was the school player, who treated girls like toys. He gave me a wink, and I immediately looked away. I wasn't surprised that my brother didn't pick me, but he rolled his eyes at Alex's behavior.
The teams were chosen and it was time to show these boys what I had. I usually played midfield and defense, and was playing mid now.
Aaron got the ball and dribbled past me. I attempted to swing my foot out and get the ball but lost my balance and fell on my butt. My team mates laughed, even Mason but Spencer shot me a sorrowful look. I could even see a smile tugging on the corner of Coach Mikes lips. My cheeks burned red and all I wanted was to get out there.
"I have to use the bathroom" I murmured and quickly scurried off to the porta potty.
How could I have been so reckless? It was a simple 1 v 1 and I blew it. So much for a good first impression...
there was a knock on the door followed by what I recognized as Spencer's voice.
"You okay?" He asked.
"yeah everything is just peachy" I grumbled sarcastically.
"Can you open up?" He asked with a concerned voice.
I sighed and reluctantly unlocked the door
"You okay?" He asked, with a caring tone. I nodded, and wiped my eye. What the heck, I was crying? I groaned with frustration.
"Don't cry. It's okay. We're all very sorry. Just come back. Please" I looked into his deep brown eyes and nodded. He held out his hand, and I reluctantly took it. He pulled me back to the boys.

"Sorry Ali." Some of them apologized.

I noticed my brother eying Spencer and my interlocked hands. He didn't apologize, but just stood there in a trance. Alex was watching me too. It was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable.

"Okay!" Coach Mike broke the silence, "practice is over! See you! Oh, and by the way, we have a tournament this weekend. Pleas,e bring your A-game.

The moment I heard A, I thought of Pretty Little Liars. It was Monday night. I should be watching a new episode, but here I am, making a fool of myself.

The guys started to go, leaving just me, Mason and Alex. My brother began making his way towards the car. I bent over to pick up my bag, when I heard a whistle behind me. I whirled around and spotted Alex smirking.

“What do you want?”

“You.”

I rolled my eyes. “Whatever.” I started heading towards the car, when he grabbed my hand.

“You will be mine. I promise you that.” He whispered seductively, causing me to shiver.

“I have to go..” I mumbled quietly and went to the car.

Mason was waiting impatiently, tapping his hand against the steering wheel. I opened the passenger seat door and stepped in.

“Took you long enough.”

I sighed heavily and shrugged.

“Sorry. Can we go now.” He sighed and started the engine.

“He doesn't care about you, you know. None of them do.” He stated. I turned to him.

“What?”

“Alex. Spencer. The others. They're just being nice. You're just a little girl. They don't give a damn about you.” My heart dropped, and I was at loss of words.

“Yes they do!” I protested, but I couldn't help but think he was right. They're sophomores, I'm just a freshmen. My brother let out a laugh.

“Who, Spencer? He's nice to everyone. And Alex? Please, sure he'd date you. He'll date any girl. But you wouldn't last a month.”

I scoffed, but didn't say anything. He was wrong. I know he's wrong. Sure, I hate Alex. But nobody insults me like that. My brother will pay. Oh hell, I'll make Alex pay too. I'll make him fall in love with me. Then, I'll break his heart. It will shatter to pieces, beyond repair.

Oh, they'll be sorry.
