I grabbed my school bag from the desk I was sitting on in music just as the pips (our school's version of a bell) went and slung it over my shoulder, ignoring the weight the purple and blue shoulder strapped bag put on my shoulder, causing it to ache like hell after too long. Abi, Izzy and I hang out in music most of the time. Izzy and I are both musicians (I play saxophone and a little guitar and she plays piano. Really really well. In fact, she underestimates her talent) and are in the school choir. not that I can sing very well. But it can be fun. Abi's a singer and she's really good. She used to be in the choir but got frustrated and left, saying we were a backup choir. We groaned in unison at the prospect of PE but still hurried to the sports building at the other end of the school. We got changed and quickly located our class. They weren't outside like normal... weird.
"Okay girls! we are going to be joining Mr. Smith's class in the hall for a friendly competition." I rolled my eyes at the others. The sport teachers sometimes get into a disagreement and have a competition between classes to 'ease the tension'. It's so stupid but at least it means we can be inside for once during the the winter term. It's freezing outside, so they make our class go outside. All the time! Logic? I don't think there is any. Our class trailed into the large sports hall. The biggest room in the school and used for whole school assemblies as well as PE. We also have a gym which is across the hall and is used for dance, gymnastics, trampolining and rock climbing. Yeah... this schools quite modernised. I narrowed my eyes at the other class. It mostly consisted of boys with a few girls whereas our class is girls only. Abi looked around, waved at Ben, and tried to figure out what we would be doing. There was a line of benches down the middle of the hall, leaving lots of space lengthways but not so much if you want to move forwards or backwards.
"Right! we are going to do a very large game of dodgeball! First we will see how it works out with class vs class and if it doesn't work we will split into two smaller groups." They gathered the classes and it turned out that our class had two extra players.
"Right. We need someone to join the other team." Miss said. "Any volunteers? No?" she rolled her eyes, not bothering to try and conceal it. "Okay then! You! Miss Harrow can you join their team. Good. Right let's get started!" At least she bothered to learn my last name. I groaned under my breath and went to join my friend from that class, Harley, and ignored the glares coming from some of the boys in my new team. Most of them don't like me and I think some are even a little scared of me. I don't get why. Some of them flinch if I so much as raise my hand near them, as if I'm going to hit them. I'm not. I'm not a fan of violence and have only ever hit one person and he very much deserved it since he cheated on Izzy with Abi - not that she knew - and with a couple of other random girls. So his well deserved punishment was a slap to the face and I must say I am proud as it left a red mark! :)
Right. Dodgeball. We don't play this often because everyone always cheats so there is no point. But now, with only 6 balls and with two teachers- oh wait. Make that three, someone else just came to help - it should be a clean game. I eyed the balls and the other team. My friends would play but wouldn't care if they got out. The chavs and some of the smaller girls would shy from the ball and, in the chav's case, spit curses at anyone who dares either come near them or throw a ball near them. A couple of people will just laugh and be stupid until they get out and a larger group - the PE golden girls - will take it really seriously and get really competitive, as will the boys from this team and some of the girls. My best bet is to just hang out in the background and hope for the best. So that's what I did and for once the game wasn't too bad. I even got a couple of people out! One by catching the ball they threw and the other by hitting them. Rhy hasn't stopped shooting glances at me but I just ignore that and concentrate on dodging the balls. I sidestep one and hop over another. One flys too high and almost hits my head but I duck outof the way then spin and catch it before returning the shot and hitting someone else. Now I'm gaining a bit more attention so I try to sidle to the back again but the only other girl left won't let me, blocking the way just as I hear a faint whooshing sound from behind me. I instinctively dodge out of the way and the ball hits the girl. Now it's just Me, Rhy, Ben and three - make that two - other boys on our side and about five girls on the other. We are even. I hop backwards and to the side, grabbing a ball and flinging it at the other team. It misses but creates enough of a distraction that one of the boys gets one girl out but then gets caught out on his second shot. This is getting serious.
