Kylie POV
As we walk to the guy's car, Val introduces him as Klay. At that moment I realize how wrong this is. I know nothing about Klay or Number Four. I get a funny feeling from him. It feels familiar to the feeling I get when I see someone lost something. But it's not exact. The only answer is 20 questions!
Mister Four and I are shoved into the small backseat of Klay's two-door car. I sit myself behind Val's seat. I have my foot on the pedal that moves the seat out of the way to leave the car. So we all get settled into our seats, Klay with his arm out the window, Val with her breasts pressed up against him, Four leaves space between, unsure what to do. My heart jumps at the thought of it.
"20 questions?" He nods.
"Name?" I ask.
"Bryson, although my best friend calls me Sonnie, if you want," he smiles crookedly. I smile unknowing, just seeing that adorable smile.
"Yours?"
"Kylie," and slowly without flinching I say, "but my best friend calls me Kyle." He chuckles a little.
"What's your favorite band?" I ask.
"Oh, so many to choose from! But if I had to pick, it'd either be Panic!at the Disco, or Crown the Empire," I jump up a little and smack his arm.
"No way!"
"Way!" He says, imitating me.
"What brought you here tonight?" I blush a little, knowing I can't tell him the real reason.
"Mainly my friend. My question for you is... Do you live in the area, I don't see you at school," I feel like I needed to explain myself.
"Actually yeah, but I don't go to the high school here, I go to Canterbury School." I guess I make a face that shows my surprise.
"What's wrong?" I shake my head. "Nothing," I say quietly. Yeah, nothing. He's a high schooler! I'm only an eighth grader! That doesn't work! This is so wrong.
"Your turn," I say moving closer to the window, farther from him.
"Oh, well, what-why did you bite my neck?" He asks. I can feel the embarrassment rise through me. The car stops. I hope they didn't hear him.
"Oh look we are here!" And I jump out of the car as soon as Val does. He follows me quickly.
"Kyle, " he says. I walk faster.
"Let's get to the party," I say as I walk towards the door of the house.
We get to the door and Klay opens the door and Sonnie holds it open for all of us, without a word. I enter the party to realize, I'd rather be with just Sonnie. He probably won't talk to me if I don't explain. I pull him through some rooms full of drunk and high people. In one room I can see a fight bubbling up. Then we enter a room with just a staircase and a door leading outside.
"Let's talk here," I say just looking at the ground.
"I want us to be honest, because I think I would really like you once we got to know each other." My heart pumps. He's not trying to rush anything. He's so kind. And when I say to myself he's kind hearted I blush and my heart beats uncontrollably.
"I-I need to- bite you," I say. I grab the hair at the back of his neck and pull him to my mouth. I bite down. He pulls us over to the stairs, so he can sit. I lean over him and can't get enough. I let go and see a little blood and lick it. He pushes me away a little. His expression looks confused, and maybe, hurt.
"I'm a vampire," I whisper. He flinches. He stands and stares at me. As he starts to say something but not before someone barges in.
"Oh hey, sorry to barge in, I didn't mean to interrupt. Actually I didn't even want to be here. So to not let this night be totally awful I grabbed myself some punch, little did I know some losers spiked it, now I'm stumbling around, trying to stay out of the way, until I can drive, whoa. Now I'm babbling, very sorry," he goes to turn around but finally looks up and sees who it is.
"Sonnie?! Wow, never did I think you would come to one of these, with a girl!" He smiles. I take this is the best friend. I stand, this is weird. I don't believe in coincidences.
"Neither would I think you would," Sonnie says. My heart jumps. But this time, it's not because of Bryson. This can't be. They both can't be pure-hearted.
"My heart pumps when there are pure-hearted people around. When my heart pumps, I need blood. And right now-" my vision is starting to get blurry. Whatever I do, I can't faint. Fainting for vampires causes a lot of health issues and it's the first rule in vampire lessons.
"I need-to bi-blood-now!" I manage to finally say. They rush over to keep me standing. Sonnie reaches his neck out and I bite down again for the third time. The cool blood spills into my mouth and I moan. That's when I notice, he's making noises. I let go.
"Are you okay?" I ask. He nods. "Why did you moan?" I ask almost accusingly. He blushes and covers where I bit with his hand.
"It felt, kinda, good," my jaw drops. Is this normal?
No. Not most people are vampires. Being a vampire, is never normal.
His friend smacks his arm "Be nice!" He said when he saw the face I made.
"Well, I'm sorry, if I offended you," He says turning towards me. "But I know nothing of what's going on, and you aren't telling me anything," He said.
"Okay, I'll tell you, but I have to start with: if I faint I could become too sick to recover, don't let me faint." I say, just like the first lesson at vampire school.
"Now, you might need to sit down," they simulaneosly sit down.
"Let's begin."
