Kylie POV
See I used to think I was normal, that every person in my kindergarten class was just like me. They had to go to spooky night classes to learn about puberty of a vampire. That they had to figure out the type of blood they prefer and that when they turn ten They'd find out what their power was. I wasn't normal.
They laughed and told me I had a crazy imagination until they thought I was just plain crazy. It didn't make sense, and my non-caring parents said I needed to learn things on my own. Thank goodness I had my brother with me. And the spooky night classes (they turned out to not be that bad).
I'm a vampire. Every vampire gets a power so to speak. Some can turn into bats, some can sparkle in the daylight and climb trees like they're on steroids. Then there's me. They call me the Lost One or the Lost Vampire. I see things that are lost. Not just a lost iPod or cat but people that loose souls, families that looses members and I feel it when they are near me.
It took me awhile to figure everything out. It's still not over. I have to find at least one person a month with my blood type, or side effects could occur. Eventually to become fully fledged I have to find a human with my blood type to become my life long partner.
Although finding a person is sort of hard for me... My blood type is rare... Most of the people that have my blood type are girls, making feasting all the more awkward.
My blood type is pure heart, or purely good intentions. So finding one is fairly easy or it should be. Ideally I should faint and the pure hearted people or the people with good intentions to help me would come up to me. These days crowds come up to a fallen person and all the bad blacks out the good. So I have to get on a secluded area with a person with a pure heart. But even pure hearts can have bad intentions in a secluded place.
So here I am. Trying to get my blood quota for the month on Halloween.
"Oh cheer up! It's six-thirty on a Friday, it's party hour!" My friend, Valentina gushes. I shake my head. Of course she's happy this is her thanksgiving.
"Exactly. What pure hearts are around here, all I see is the innocence they lost." She laughs and clutches my arm saying chill. I sigh resigning. Tonight will be fun. I will make it fun.
I look around and see the skeevy guys hanging in the dark, passing some drugs back and forth. I see one lost his family to this, he's the one that owns the weed. I wish I could save him, help him.
"Stop that, I see you," she tugs me forward. "Nothing you say could make them innocent again."
We come up to a food stand and get a cup of lemonade and basket of fries to share. She takes a sip of the lemonade and starts to cough. I pat her back but it doesn't help. She keeps coughing and falls to the ground.I started freaking out. What's going on?!
"Val!" I shout as she lays face down, coughing still. The man that gave us the food looks over his movable cart and pushes it away from the scene we are making. Four guys run up to us.
"What happened?!" They all shout at me. It takes me a second to read each of them. One thought Val was hot. Number two just thought 'Oo! Laying girl!'. Number three wanted to be part of the drama. When I look at number four, my heart pumps faster. He's my blood type. I stare at him as he tries to ask again what happened. All I can do is concentrate on his lips.
But Valentina always picks the right moments. Her coughing slows and she pulls herself up. The four are kneeling by her and I just stare, unable to do anything.
"Oh my, did I black out?" She asks holding her head. Boy number four asks if she's needs water but she politely declines. When he helps her up and then looks at me, my heart jumps. The thing is if your blood type is rare that means that when you feel it, it hits you like a ton of bricks.
"Ky?" She asks a little rasp in her voice. "Let's just keep walking, I'll be fine," she coughs the last brassiness out of her voice and turns toward the guys.
"Wanna walk around with us?" Number four smiles. Number one said "hell yea!". Shook his head and shyly walked away. He probably figures that a standing girl isn't as fun as a girl laying down. Number three disappeared before she asked.
As we walk my heart pumps faster and faster. I need that blood. Val distracts the first boy. This is not her first time being a wing man. Now's the time. I grab his hand and go on my tiptoes.
"Follow me," I whisper in his ear. He smiles. I pull his hand as I run back to the entrance. My heart can barely contain itself. When we get through the gate I pull him close to me.
"Don't be shocked at the next thing I do," I say into his chest. I can hear his heart. I go on my tiptoes again and bite into his neck. He grunts. I try not to listen. I need the blood. Not a friend. I loosen a little because I don't want to take too much. When I let go completely he gasps and clutches his neck.
"I thought you were gonna kiss me," his voice cracking on 'gonna'. I blush. He stares at me, eyes wide. What should I say? Normally the people I feast on faint.
"Why didn't you faint?" I ask not able to control my mouth.
"I mean, I suppose I could... If you want," he says awkwardly.
"No, I just...this is weird," I stutter.
"Kyle!" Val shouts. I cringe at the nickname. She runs towards us. Of course, she has a guy on her arm.
"In the mood for a party?" She asks giggling and falling all over this random stranger. Apparently I made a face because she shoots me a glare that says 'you better be in the mood for a party'.
I shrug. "Sure." I say.
