Vriddhee had been friends with Rohit for a really long time. The two of them had met each other through Ritika, who was Rohit ’s wife. Ritika often complained to Rohit how she felt bad for Vriddhee because it had been a really long time since Vriddhee had been in a relationship. It was not that she didn’t have any offers; it was just that she always seemed to attract the wrong type of guys. Most of the guys that she had gone out with in the past had been jerks. Some of them were so full of themselves that during their date the guy would only talk about himself or one of his many achievements. It was due to that reason that Alli had stopped dating. She had sworn off guys. She had been quite successful and had managed not to date anyone for a couple of years, but of course Ritu would have none of that. It was due to Ritu’s complaining that Vriddhee would soon find herself sitting in a restaurant across the table from Hardik Pandya.
Rohit had begged Vriddhee to go on this date. She had refused many times, but he could be a very persistent lad once he had set his mind up to something. After asking her for over five days, she finally relented. She figured after that one date, she would never have to see the guy that she had been set up with again. Rohit had done the same thing with Hardik . He had repeatedly asked Hardik to go on a date with Vriddhee . Hardik was a lot quicker in giving in. It only took three days of constantly bugging him. It’s not that Hardik wanted to be set up by Rohit; he just didn’t want Rohit to continue to annoy him. He knew that if he agreed to the date, Rohit would shut up quicker. He also never expected much from this date. He thought he would go, just to appease Rohit, and then he would never have to see the girl again. Neither Vriddhee nor Hardik expected a lot from this date. But the saying does go ‘Always expect the unexpected.’
Vriddhee had finally arrived at the restaurant that Rohit had told her to go to. Rohit had constantly called her all day to make sure that she would go. She almost planned on not showing up just to spite him. She loved the guy but he could be very annoying sometimes. She finally stepped not the restaurant and began looking around for Hardik . She knew who he was of course. She had seen him before when she had gone with Ritika to one of Mumbai Indians ’s games. She had never spoken to him before though. She guessed there was a first time for everything. As she scanned the restaurant, her eyes finally landed on Hardik’s who was sitting in a booth towards the back away from the rest of the crowd. She walked up to the table and took the seat across from him. “Sorry to keep you waiting traffic was really bad. I’m Vriddhee. ” “Hardik , I just got here so the wait wasn’t too bad.” After the introductions were over they both fell into a silence. They had no idea what to talk about. How does one begin a conversation with someone that they were set up with? After being unable to bear the silence any longer, Hardik decided to begin the conversation. “So, Rohit told me that you like cricket . Any team in particular?” After that ice breaker, the conversation flowed. They talked about both their likes and dislikes, what they wanted to do in the future, etc. As they talked, the waiter had brought their food. They continued to talk while eating. Vriddhee had a lot of fun. Being set up didn’t seem like that big of a deal anymore. This date was the best date that she had been on in years. For once the guy seemed to be genuinely interested in learning about her and not just talking about himself. Hardik also had a good time on the date with Vriddhee . He enjoyed her sense of humor. She wasn’t like many of the women that he usually dated and she liked that about her. She was unique. They both found themselves glad that they had said yes to going on the date.
After dinner, Hardik offered to drive her home. The car ride was filled with chat. They both realized that they never seemed to run out of things to talk about. As they pulled up to her house, Vriddhee almost wished that she didn’t have to go. She turned around to bid him goodnight. “I had a lot of fun today.” “We should do this again sometimes, except next time Rohit and Ritika won’t have to plan the whole thing for us.” She was glad that he wanted to see her again. “I’d like that.” They set up a date for the next night. As she exited the car and into her house, she decided that she was going to have to thank Rohika for setting her up.
