"How about becoming my Rahk?" This fae, his supposed to be target was making a deal. Maybe this guy had finally lost it. Daran thought. Maybe the stress of having an assassin after his throat at an ungodly hour for one week finally got to him.
"What?" Daran asked dumbfoundedly. It was in an old language, yet Daran did not have any problem understanding it in fact, he excels in old language. But what made him so dumbfounded was the meaning and power that one word held. "Rahk? I'm beginning to think that you're actually very foolish."
The fae's smile was taunting. "You don't have to worry about your freedom. Freedom is guaranteed. I'll pay the price for your freedom." Vian Hawthorn was a weird man. Who would offered an assassin a position of a Shadow when the assassin was after that person's throat?
Rahk is something people would like to call a privilege, well most people would. When you become a Rahk, you swear an oath to the person who offered you the position, and you will protect that person's life with your whole life. There is a catch for that of course. In exchange for your protection, you will be treated the same way as that person you protect. In other word, when that person is a prince, you are given the same privilege a prince would get. The prince's money, is your money. And the food and all the other things a prince got will also be yours. The same thing happens if that person is a king. It is once in a lifetime offer. Yet as it was said before, that is for some people only. One would say becoming a Rahk, was like becoming the said person's shadow, because you would be guarding the same person for 24/7.
And this fae prince, the second prince in the kingdom of Vendir, a country north from Davla, was offering him the position of a Shadow.
Daran's eyes were calculating, and his mind was reconsidering this bargain. Even he knew, that he would be a fool, if he did not agree on this bargain. Yet, a part of him was screaming no. That the path he would take to protect this fae, might be a path that doomed him. That a face of the past would revealed itself again.
"Isn't it a great offer? You get all the privilege you want and you get your freedom." He hated to admit it, but this fae was correct. He had always wanted to be free from that person, but the debt he needed to pay was a large sum of money, and with the Prince of Vendir paying the money... It would be possible. All he needed to do was to just accept the offer.
It was about time anyway, he was tired of the bloodsport. He could finally stop all of that, well not entirely, but he could finally stop killing to make a living. And he could use this talent of his to do something good once in awhile. Using this power to protect people was better than using it to kill people. But...
"Even if I were to accept this, what would you do to this one job I've taken? I have accepted the job to kill you after all." With eyebrows raised, Daran asked Vian.
"That, you don't have to worry about it. I will deal with it." He smiled at Daran, mischief glinted in his eyes yet those eyes were kind at the same time. "So? Is it a yes, or a no?"
Daran sighed at this fae male he was supposed to protect from now on, he would definitely be a pain in the ass, yet he knew this was far better than killing people the way he usually did.
"A bargain it is."
