“Wait so let me get this straight,” Carter said, leaning forward as Luke looked at him smugly. “You guys broke a go-cart track?!”
“Well I wouldn’t really say broke,” Luke shrugged, “More like destroyed and took down to the ground.”
Carter leaned back and clapped his hands, laughing hysterically. “So what happened?”
“Well Calum didn’t even get out of his go-cart, he just drove away like mad. But mine was wedged under one of the poles so Michael drove over and got me and I rode off with him. But we didn’t really get very far before gas ran out and we had to run through our entire neighborhood’s backyards to get to Michael’s which was closest.”
“You’re kidding,” Carter shook his head, “Dang man, you guys were wild.”
“We weren’t really,” Luke chuckled, “I almost peed myself I was so scared.”
“That’s great,” Carter shook his head, “Hey Lonnie, can I have your fries?”
“What? Oh,” Avalon cleared her throat and broke out of her daze. “Yeah sure.”
“You okay?” Luke whispered and pulled her closer. Avalon nodded and rested her head on his shoulder. Carter and Luke were getting along really well, and it almost bothered her. There was nothing more she wanted than for her boyfriend and her brother to be good friends. But Carter had flipped the switch so easily. He’d gone from the cold shoulder and a sassy mouth to warm hugs and comforting affection.
Something as up.
But she decided to let it go, considering how well things were going anyway. They were at a burger joint down the road from the airport and they were just finishing up with lunch before taking Carter to catch his flight. Carter had talked with Ashton on the ride there and knew exactly where to look for him when he landed.
“And don’t you dare think that I’m going to take you somewhere to get food or anything because we are going straight home and I’m locking you in your room until you’re thirty,” Ashton had threatened.
Needless to say, Carter was eating as much as he could now.
“We should probably get going,” Luke sighed, checking his watch. “It’s almost noon. Are you sure you have everything?”
Carter nodded and patted his backpack next to him. Harry had given him one of his old backpacks to use to hold anything Carter had gotten in London and his skateboard stuck out of the top of it, making Carter feel badass. Apparently.
