"Ms. Paccino!" the teacher yells. Jade awakes with a start, almost jumping out of her seat. The teacher cleared her throat and asked, "Were you sleeping Ms. Paccino?"
Jade looked up at her and quietly said, "No Professor Burbage."
The teacher looked at her with a glare. "Well if you weren't sleeping, care to tell the class how to function a toaster?"
Jade looked up at the teacher and smiled. "A toaster Professor," she started to say. "Can be used for-" She was cut off by a large noise in the hallway. Smoke curled under the door to the classroom as the Professor went out in the hall to see what the fuss was about. Jade peered out of the door to see two backs bolting away, their red and gold scarves rustling behind them. Jade silently thanked James and Sirius for causing this explosion of rancid smelling dungbombs. The second hour bell rang, and Jade was off to History of Magic.
Jade slowly walked into the near full classroom and sat next to Andrew. Everyone kept their distance from the pair. They were a pair that was considered dangerous. With Andrews looks and brute strength, everyone was scared of getting pounded. Jade on the other hand looked nice and friendly, but everyone knew she was dangerous. She knew spells on how to kill and never be traced and she knew how to brew potions that Slughorn was scared of. If she glares at a group of loud students, they shut up. If she tells a bully to leave someone alone, they do. Even though Jade knew all these things, she would never actually kill or severely harm anyone. But everyone else didn't need to know that. Despite being a Muggleborn, Jade was quite good at magic. She didn't want to pay attention and soon she drifted off into another memory.
Jade walked down the hall in silence. Chatter was all around her as they were being escorted into their common rooms. Jade saw Adrienne and Nili walking together and tapped Nili on the shoulder. She turned around, her face immediately dropping as she saw Jade. She took a few steps back with a horrified look on her face. Adrienne turned to look what made Nili so shocked and saw Jade. She walked right up to Jade, looked her in the eye and said, "What are you doing near us?"
Jade was taken back by this remark. "We're friends!" she said looking at the two of them. After she looked at their faces she squeaked a small, "Right?"
Adrienne rolled her eyes. "As if i could ever be friends with a Slytherin!" Adrienne took a few steps closer so she was close enough to hear Jade's quick heart beat. "A good for nothing, evil, worthless Slytherin!" Jade's lip quivered at the sound of those words. She turned around to walk away, but fell down due to a hard shove to her back. She looked up, and she could see Adrienne's face turned up into a wicked smile. She reared her leg back, as if to kick her but stopped when a voice called out,
"Hey! Leave her alone!" A boy ran forward and, without thinking, reared his fist back and punched Adrienne right in the nose. She shrieked and ran off towards the kitchens with Nili trailing behind her.
"Need some help?" The boy spoke softly, as though he didn't want to disturb any comfortable silence. He reached out his hand to her and Jade took it. She quickly wiped her eyes and didn't realize that they were still holding hands. She recoiled immediately and looked into the boy's dark eyes.
"Uh, thanks." She said, dusting off her robes.
"Anytime." he said. And by the look on his face, Jade could tell he meant it. He started towards the Slytherin common room and she followed. She stared into the back of his head, concentrating hard. She was met by a stone wall. Jade looked shocked. She had this thing where she could look into someones brain, but she didn't use it often. No one knew about it of course, Jade didn't want to be more of an outcast than she already was. Andrew was the first person she tried since she got here, and she was blocked out of his brain. Am I losing my touch? Jade thought. To test it, she looked straight at a Ravenclaw girl with blonde hair. Immediately she got in and saw everything. This girl had a severe crush on the boy with long black hair and her worst fear was two men holding hands. Jade had no idea who that was so she got out of the girls mind and jogged a little to catch up to the boy who saved her.
"By the way," the boy said, looking at Jade. "I'm Andrew."
*Time skip to end of the day back into the dormitories because I'm lazy*
Jade sat at her favorite spot, waiting for Andrew to come back from Dinivation. She was curled up with a book, her back against the dark green pillows. She finally got bored waiting for Andrew so she decided that she would try and find him.
Jade walked along the halls, trying to find Andrew. She had finally given up, and she turned a corner and saw quite a scene. There was Sirius Black and Remus Lupin against the wall, cornered by three Slytherin boys. Jade lurked, and listened.
"So what do we do to fags, Kyle?" a deep voice said. A voice that Jade assumed was Kyle, replied with, "We teach 'em a lesson." Jade saw Sirius grab Remus' hand and close his eyes. She heard knuckles cracking and that's when she had enough.
"You might wanna pick on someone your own size," Jade said bravely. "But I don't think I've ever seen anyone that massive in my life!"
"And what are you gonna do about it?" one of them snickered. "Tell the headmaster?" Jade kept her cool and walked up to him very sweetly. She concentrated on his brain and she saw he was a gigantic, arrogant moron who thought all girls wanted him. And, ironically, afraid of snakes. Jade devised a plan and quickly put it into action. She put her hand on his cheek and smiled lovingly. His face immediately melted into a dopey smile. She pulled him in for what he thought was a kiss, and she put her wand to his throat.
She whispered in his ear, "If you dare touch a hair on their heads ever again, you will be sorry. I know spells that can put you in the hospital wing for weeks or can make you go mad. I could easily slip a Draught of Living Death into your pumpkin juice at breakfast, and no one would ever know that you weren't dead. They would bury you alive." The boy gulped and looked at Jade, his eyes full of fear.
"Scram." she said to him and the three other boys. They all sprinted down the hallway and Jade turned to face the two boys, their faces frozen with shock. All of a sudden Sirius breaks out into laughter.
"That was bloody brilliant! You made them piss their pants!" Sirius wheezed. Sirius straightened up and said, "We owe you one. Thanks a lot."
Remus stopped laughing and said "Thank you though. Really."
"Anytime." Jade said. And she really meant it.
"Remember that the Marauders have got your back." Sirius winked. Remus rolled his eyes.
They began to walk away when Jade heard Sirius say, "Can you believe she's a Slytherin?" Jade smirked.
