"Kelsy!" the voice that belonged to Lukas echoed throughout the hallways.

I snapped my head up to the sound as did twenty other heads, wondering what in three worlds was Lukas Ryder doing this time?

I threw my right hand up and pushed him away when Lukas tried helping me up.

"What the hell are you doing here with these hooligans," Lukas asks when he finally gave up on helping me from the floor.

"You with this mutant freak, Luke," the tallest guy asked while the others were snickering at his remark.

I saw an emotion flash from within his eyes, anger? I'll have no idea now that it's already been wiped from his face as he turned toward the guys that were just harrassing me.

Instead of him saying something like, "No, i was just worried about a fellow student" "So what?" he says this "Yeah, and what of it?"

Everyone that was watching including me, gawked at his answer. I swear that the people that could make it look like their eyes could pop out were pulling that little stunt if front of everyone after he said that little sentence. You know in cartoons like Roger Rabbit when Jessica Rabbit walks in the door and everyones eyes bulge out and their mouths literally drop to the floor, imagine that in this scenario. Yeah, there you go.

The guys just stared at him before one of them caught themselves and cleared their throat. "That's got to mean something, huh, boys," he snickers.

"So what? Just because you couldn't care less for the rocks and lint between your toes or any shit that you have to bring that down on the rest of us, especially her," he says while gesturing where I was hiding behind him.

Everyone was shocked at how Lukas was reacting to this situation and quite frankly, I was just getting a little freaked out. I mean, come on, no one has ever really taken to my side before and the feeling is like when a stray dog is following you everywhere. You kind of like the feeling that he like you but you also kind of want to get rid of it.

When I finally shook myself from my little daze, the bell went. Shoot! I pushed the protective arm that Lukas had on my and bolted for my books as I ran up the stairs and into class.

That was too close to call! Too close!

Bolting into class like hellhounds were on my tail, I all but fell out of my seat when I entered class. the teacher was looking at me like I was meant to be put into a mental institution. to be honest, I got that look a lot so it wasn't such a surprise.

The room was starting to fill with kids and teacher assistants so I took that as my cue to blend into the back of the class.

When the bell went and the teacher began the lecture, I heard whispers of the rumors from earlier. Stuff about how Lukas all of a sudden stepped in, beat up the gang and even rumors of Lukas kissing me after the whole fiasco. Jeez, hath no one respect for a shadow?

I groaned at the whispers about me, tucking my head in my nest of arms on my desk.

After another ten minutes of making my ears bleed from the false information, I ended up untangling my headphones and plugging myself into my Ipod.

I was blasting Drow Kids Let It Out when I heard the door bust through my headphones and I jerked my head up only to see that Lukas was strolling through the door so over casually.

"Afternoon MIss," he waved at the teacher as he then began to scan the crowds.

"Mr. Ryder," the teacher deadpanned. "And where were you?"

He just waved. "Ah, I was just sorting out scores with the office. if you're going to nark me out on this, you can take it up with the office," he states.

About half of the class was gawking. Sure, some of us were expecting that from the Lukas Ryder but when more than 75% of the entire school population knows about what went down in the hallways at lunch and to say that he was the one to get in trouble for it is almost astonishing.

Even more astonishing, rather than moving to the seat that he usually occupies around the middle, he strolls right past his chair and takes the seat right beside on my right side. Just the feeling of him beside me sent this freakishly weird feeling throughout my system.

"Hey," says under his breath at me.

I did a small wave over my shoulder from where my head was still nestled in my little nest of arms. Shit! what the hell is he doing here, sitting beside me when he has a perfectly good spot in the middle?

The teacher began to teach again, this time, writing notes on the board. I still had my head on my hands when I felt a poke on my side. I twitched.

"Hey, Kels," a whisper so close tickled my ear.

I looked over to see that Lukas had a paper on his desk and had nothing on it. I looked from him to the paper and back again. What does he want now?

I took out the notebook from my bag and started writing my scrawl of handwriting on the fresh new page. What?

I passed him the notebook when I was done. When his eyes finished scanning the words, he passed it back and put a hand behind his neck, rubbing it.

"Well, you see. my grades are slipping, almost to the point that if I don't do my work, then I am bound for failing," he fades off his sentence. He looks at me, expecting something from me.

With contorted confusion, I began to hand wrote, Your point is...?

He looked like he was about to burst in flush when he answered about a word in a millisecond. "Ikindaneedyourhelpinschoolsoicanpassmygrades,"  he says in such a rush that I almost didn't catch what he was trying to say.

I look of enlightenment blew over my face and a smirk replaced my look of confusion. Just to milk the moment though, because Lukas Ryder asked me to basically tutor him.

I'm sorry, I didn't catch that. mind repeating it?

I passed the notebook to him and as he was trying to keep his cool. when he read it, he hid his face in his hands for a moment. revealing his face again to a mask of complete self control, he says,

"Kels, I need your help in school work so I can pass my grades,' he repeats cooly.

I gave it a real thought. could I do it? Apparently he thought that I was still milking it and a smirk grew on his features. I gave him the questioning look and before anyone can even say the word BUBBLES, my notebook was stolen. my notebook that had everything in it. My doodlings, past conversations, everything.

"Unless you actually mean to tutor me, this notebook will never see you again," Lukas says with a smirk.

I nodded like a bobble head basically and slowly, he gave back my note book. I snatched it back with a fury hoarding feel to the action.

"Jeez, something in that notebook that means that much to you?"

I didn't do anything. I just stuffed my notebook back into my bag ad continued working on the paper, pointing out things to give away the answer to Lukas whenever he bugged me. Mind you, that was about every ten seconds or so.
