Kelsters POV

I run through the forest, a branch snaps to my left... darkness. I wake up-submerged in the water- I panic and get even more disoriented. Everything is in slow motion, except my heart- its beating at a pace one might think is impossible. I scream, no one hears m-

My younger brother rushes over, our small trailer isn't exactly soundproof, I guess I actually screamed.

"Kell. Relax," he whispers in my ear and wraps his small arms around my torso, "You're okay," he whispers.

"I'm sorry, Flynney. I didn't mean to wake you up," I whisper, my voice breaks halfway through.

"Stop."

"Stop wh-," he cuts me off

"Stop apologizing. I wasn't asleep in the first place. You need to relax. Your heart rate is too fast," he frowned, he wanted to be a doctor, spent hours at the community library 'researching', he'd gone there for sleep; when mama had Jack over.

I look around the room, "Flynney? Where's mama?" I ask, biting my lip nervously.

Flynn shrugged, "I'm not sure," he said.

I shake my head, "You shouldn't be growing up like this," I whisper.

Flynn looked at me, unblinking, "But Kell- you grew up like this. You're just fine," he whispers back.

A loud bang- our 'door'- sounds to our left. I snap my view to the door to see my mother standing there, her appearance could look better, but I guess when you live in a trailer park, your appearance doesn't look the best.

"What the hell are you kids doing awake?"

Flynn goes to speak, but I cut him off, "Sorry mama. I just a had a bad dream," I say sheepishly and avert my gaze.

Now; my mother isn't the most understanding person, so her next sentence makes her seem like a horrible person, she basically is.

"Bad dream? How the fuck is Flynn supposed to help you? It's all in your idiotic head," she snaps and walks up to me. "Look at me when I'm speaking to you!"

I don't look up, but I do realize she smells of alcohol.

A sharp pain stings my scalp, she had grabbed a fistful of my hair and wrenched my head back, my eyes have no other choice but to look at her, "Sorry mama..."

She scoffs and releases my hair and staggers away, "Little-," her next words I couldn't hear.

Flynn looks at me, his eyes terrified, I have always stuck up for him, mainly because I knew what it felt like when someone didn't stick up for me.

"Sssh Flynney. You're okay," I whisper and hold him close, "I won't let her hurt you."

We both eventually fall asleep, him cradled to my chest.

Hi! I'm sorry this chapter is kind of short, but I don't want to give away too much. Soooo. Kelster isn't really super strong when it comes to her mother, maybe that will change...

Have a lovely day!
