The past couple of weeks have been rather boring as there wasn't any class on hero training due to All Might doing...things?
As the class days continue, Todoroki and I have been becoming better acquainted. Albeit, a little awkward at times, we could just sit there at lunch doing nothing. Either that or I was on my phone.
On occasion, I would actually watch an anime with Todoroki. He didn't seem actually interested in what was going on, but I believe that he agreed to watch to humor me.
"Yo! Todoroki! Check this out! It's a cat stepping all over another cat! It's so cute!" I say while leaning closer to show him my phone.
The video plays and he simply watches the video. He stares at the screen with a blank face. I look at him, hoping to get a reaction.
The video ends and I look at him. He continues to stare at the phone.
"It was pretty cute." He says in a monotone voice, slurping his soba.
I smile, as he responds, and I resume scrolling through my phone. But then I stop.
"Ya' know. We should try and be better friends." I say, turning off my phone.
"How?"
I smile at him.
"We can just ask each other random questions."'
He gives me a blank look. His face was different from the first time I met him. During the battle trial, he was extremely cold and bothered. Now he was relatively indifferent.
"You can go first. Ask me anything. My favorite color, about my family, favorite subject. Anything you are curious about!"
Todoroki pauses for a moment. He stares at me, with an analytical look. I was pretty uncomfortable, trying to focus on his eyes and nothing else. His scar was something I was trying not to stare at.
"Why did you decide to sit with me?"
I flinch at his words. He seemed to be cutting to the chase. I didn't want to say that I sat next to him because he was one: hot, two: sad.
"Do you not want me to sit next to you?"
"It's not that. I don't really care. You're avoiding the question though."
"Hehe... well, if I'm being honest, you just looked really lonely and sad."
He gives me a surprised look, but his neutral face continues. I give him a nervous smile before continuing with our little game.
"Hmm, let's see... What do you like to do in your spare time?"
"Nothing in particular."
"Why did you still sit next to me even though I was rude to you?"
I think for a moment remembering the second time I had sat next to him.
☜☜☜☜☜☜☜
"Hey, Todoroki! Mind if I start sitting next to you?" I say in a cheery voice, but he simply glares at me.
I get shivers up my spine. He was clearly upset. I was not expecting this behavior since the other day he was fine.
"You have no reason to. Go away."
I frown at his words. A pang in my heart as I was upset by his words. I brush it off and continue to be kind.
"I mean, I do have a reason because I want to be friends!"
"Well, I don't."
I frown at this. My thoughts were not going in the right place. I didn't want to annoy or upset him, but I felt like I had to persevere. Seemingly ignoring him, I proceed to sit next to him. He seemed fine the first time I sat next to him, so I knew that it was okay if I sat next to him again.
"Didn't hear what I just said? Why are you continuing to be a nuisance."
'Ouch.'
"I won't bother you. I just want to sit with you. I promise I won't say anything." I say with a smile, but I was actually on the verge of just walking away.
"I don't need friends. Whatever you're planning on doing is not going to work, so I suggest you get up in leave now."
I sigh but try and ignore his words. They really hurt because he was being very mean to me, but I plugged in my headphones and went on my phone, eating a piece of rice.
He gave up on getting me to leave, so he scoots away from me and continues eating.
'He seemed friendlier before...What happened? He's being such an asshole.'

"Well, the first time I sat with you, you were alright so I just figured you were having an off day." I saw with a smile.
"I was still rude to you though. Even after that."
"Yeah, you were, but that's what my earbuds are for," I say with a laugh.
Todoroki leans back in the bench and looks down and away from me.
"My turn. What made you change your attitude all of a sudden?"
Todoroki goes silent, taking a moment to think about his actions. As he was about to answer, he stops himself.
"I did find you irritating at the beginning. I was actually considering moving where I sit to avoid you."
I choke.
"But for some reason, the first time I was with you, I felt...safe? Understood?"
I cock my head to the side.
"In what sense?"
"Many people are curious when it comes to me. They typically stare at my scar and strange appearance, but with you, it just seemed like you knew. You hadn't asked me a single question about my background or anything. And you haven't left me yet."
I go silent for a moment and smile. Todoroki gives me a look.
"That's the most you've said to me since we first met. It was just a little surprising"
He pauses and nods, finishing up his tray of food. Placing it on the bench, he looks at me, a suspicious look on his face.
"Are you not curious about what happened to me? My background? The fact that my father is the number two hero?"
He asks in a low tone while giving me a dark look. I flinch at the intensity of his eyes.
"The moment I felt those things. I have been suspicious of you. What do you want from me? Fame? Power? Leverage over me?"
I am angered by his words. The moment I thought he was becoming my friend, it seems like I made him more suspicious.
I exhale with a frown present on my face.
"I explained to you before that I came to you because I wanted to befriend you. I am hurt that you think I have some ulterior motive. I thought we were becoming better friends."
Todoroki stares at me again out of my peripheral vision. I sigh and stand up, taking his tray and throwing our trash away. He watched me carefully as I plop down on the bench.
"Not everyone is out to get you, Todoroki."
"..."
"I don't need to be curious about your past, or know it. I just know that I want to be friends with you. Not because it'll give me fame or whatever. It's really as simple as that. Nothing more. Nothing less."
"Why are you trying so hard?"
I giggle. Before looking at him straight in the eyes. We stare at each other for a moment and I smile and turn away.
"It sounds weird and creepy, but I want to see you happy. Besides, my dad is a hero, too. I don't need you for fame when I got my dad for that!"
I laugh before standing up, grabbing my phone and shoving it into my pocket. Immediately after I place an earbud in my ear.
"You comin'?" I say to him with a grin.
'I have my work cut out for me.'
