When class finally ended, I made my way up to Mr. Carpenter's desk. I stopped a safe distance away. Cayenne left the class tentatively, and all the other students fled quickly. I saw her stop at the door, which was cracked open slightly.
Mr. Carpenter turned to me and smiled his devious smile.
"So, Raven. Let's talk," he folded his arms in his chair.
"Yeah, Mr. Carpenter. I, um, didn't understand the homework," I said softly, looking down.
"Then you should have come in to class this morning to get help!" He screamed, spit flying in my hair, making me jump.
"I'm sorry Mr. Carpenter, it's just that you can be a little angry -" I started, before his put his hand up to stop me.
"I don't want to hear it," he snarled. "Detention!"
"Yes, Mr. Carpenter..." I said, turning to leave.
It was at that moment that Cayenne chose to push the door open. She grabbed my shoulder as I was walking and turned me around. Her face had a look of determination, and she stopped right in front of his face.
"You can't just give her detention for being afraid of you. Everyone is! And if she's going to detention, I am too," she looked straight in his eyes.
He scoffed, "You have to do something stupid to get in detention."
"Oh yeah?" Cayenne challenged, eyeing him. She looked down at his desk, and at his stupid mug filled with black coffee. And at the stack of tests right next to it.
I gave her a look, and she flung her arm up, knocking the mug over, spilling the coffee on the tests.
"Oops. I didn't see that," she said, trying not to laugh. I could see someone's answer of 14 fade away.
"You imbecile!" He yelled, getting up and looking down at her.
"I swear if I could -" He sighed. "I hate my job. Detention!" He snapped and pointed at the door and we ushered out quickly.
Once we were out and I pushed the door close, we just started laughing.
"Did you see the look on his face?" I wheezed, in between laughs.
Suddenly the door flung open and we stopped laughing.
"Take these," he spat, and handed us two detention passes.
He closed the door behind him quickly and we scrambled to our next class.
•••
Cayenne came in after me, with the supplies we needed. We scrambled to the corner of the room to set up the camera. We made sure we got to detention 10 minutes early for this. Mr. Carpenter is known for insulting his students during detention, and if we get video of him doing that, we might have something against Macie, because she's his niece. After all, I don't think she would want her family reputation ruined...
We connected the last plug into the wall and ran to our desks.
Looking back, it wasn't that noticeable in the wall. With Mr. Carpenter's dull mind, it would never be discovered.
By the time the rest of the students had shuffled in, and Mr. Carpenter had come in, it hadn't been noticed once.
Laina slammed her books right next to me and sat down.
"...Hi Laina," I said, smiling.
"Raven. You know I like him! Honestly, you've disappointed me. I didn't think you or Cayenne would do that. To anybody," she huffed.
It was then that Cayenne noticed Brianna sitting at the back of the class. And unfortunately, James was sitting right next to her.
She kicked my leg and I swiveled my head around.
"Raven! I'm talking to you!" Laina exclaimed.
Brianna zeroed in on me, and shook her head, bringing her phone up and tapping it.
Ugh. I couldn't even explain to Laina why we did what we did.
"So yeah, Laina. I'm sorry. I don't know what overcame me and Cayenne, but his shirt just looked so... silky. You know how I am. Sucker for silky things," I smiled.
"Silk?" she scoffed. "Sure. I've never seen you really wear many silky things."
I looked down at my outfit and sighed.
Ripped blue skinny jeans. An oversized lavender sweater. Dirty black converse. My hair was in a high ponytail.
I glanced back at Cayenne's outfit.
She was wearing plain blue jeans, a teal sweatshirt and navy blue keds. Her hair was down. Both of us chose causal looks for the day.
Neither of us was wearing anything silky.
"Listen, if you like him or something -"
"No! No, neither Cayenne or I like him," I explained.
"Then why did you do that to me?" She asked, hurt pooling in her eyes.
"Ok listen up brats!" Mr. Carpenter roared. Saved by the bell. Or really, the devil. "This is detention! Which means no talking! I don't care what you do - but do not talk!" He said. He sat down in his chair, an audible squelch resulting.
"But first, I need to talk to you idiots. You need to explain to me why you're in detention today and what you'll do next time to stay out of it. Let's start with the front row."
The students in the front spoke their stories and he proceeded to insult them after. When it came our turn, I spoke first.
"I um, didn't do my homework. Next time, I'll do it?" I said shrugging.
"Don't play dumb, stupid. You're just a lazy student. No wonder you have a B- in my class, idiot. Next!" Mr. Carpenter shook his head.
"I was um, defending a friend. And I accidentally knocked over a mug of coffee on some tests. Next time I won't knock over coffee on tests," Cayenne said sarcastically.
"Oh, don't victimize yourself Cayenne. You're making it seem like I'm some monster. You students need to learn not to be so stupid. Cayenne's dumb mistake cost her an afternoon at home. Tragic," he muttered.
Once that was done, detention time began.
Immediately, everyone's phones came out - including Mr. Carpenter's.
I tried texting Laina first.

L, u don't understand. And i can't explain it 2 u. srry

When that didn't work, I texted Cayenne.

We ended up just working on our English assignment until detention was over. Everyone quietly filtered out until we were the last ones in.
Laina stopped to talk to us on the way out.
"Laina, we were just -" Cayenne brushed her hair back.
"Seriously guys, I thought I could trust you two," Laina shook her head.
"Oh my gosh Laina, he's pretending to like you!" I blurt out. I couldn't help myself, it was like word vomit.
"Seriously Raven, that's just petty. I can't believe you'd say something like that!" Laina said, before running out the door. James shot me a glare from behind after chasing after her.
"Why are you two morons still in here?" Mr. Carpenter said with disgust.
"We um, lost something in here. We're just going to look for it," Cayenne said.
"Be out in two minutes, or I'll give you detention again tomorrow," Mr. Carpenter snarled before slamming the door shut behind him.
I scrambled up and took the camera down, shoving it in my backpack.
"Go, go, go!" I whispered to Cayenne. She ran to the door and opened it, swiftly walking out.
We ran out of the building and I called my sister to pick us up. When she came, we got in and she dropped Cayenne off before going back home.

Hey there!
It's Raven. I had a LOT of free time today so I wrote an entire chapter. You're welcome! Alright, stay tuned for Cayenne's POV!
