I followed behind them as the light from their flashlights lit the way. Nancy stopped, making me stop and when Jonathan noticed he turned to face us.

"Are you tired?" He asked slightly annoyed.

"Shut up." Nancy said looking to our left.

"What?" I asked.

"I heard something." She said.

I moved to beside her. There was a high pitched animal noise and we followed it to find an injured deer. It had blood all over and wasn't moving.

"Oh god." Nancy breathed out.

I pushed past them and kneeled beside the deer.

"It's been hit by a car." Nancy said.

We both reached out and touched it. Tears started to fill my eyes, me having a soft spot for animals.

"We just can't leave it." I muttered, looking at Nancy and Jonathan.

I looked in her hands to see the gun. She looked at the deer and Jonathan reached to pull me back.

"I'll do it." Jonathan spoke, reaching for the gun.

"I thought you.." Nancy started.

"I'm not nine anymore." He looked at her.

He took the gun from her and stood up. Nancy pulled me to my feet and I watched as he aimed at the deer. Nancy turned me away slightly but made it so we could kind of see what happened. Before he could shoot the deer got dragged away and I jumped back, the other two doing the same.

"What was that?" Nancy asked, her eyes on where the deer disappeared.

We followed after the trail of blood it left behind, moving slowly because we don't know what could happen. Nancy searched the trail with her flashlight while Jonathan looked around with the gun ready.

"Where'd it go?" Nancy asked.

I looked to see what she was talking about and realized the trail ended.

"I don't know." Jonathan breathed out.

Looking around, I realized how dark it was.

"Do you see anymore blood?" Nancy asked looking at him.

He aimed his flashlight at the ground and searched it a little. "No."

I let out a deep breath and continued to look around although I couldn't see much without a flashlight. Following Nancy, I looked around. Nancy stopped and I bumped into her and turned to see her looking at a hole in the trunk of a tree. There was stuff inside the tree and there was a growling noise.

"Nance." I said.

She looked up at me before moving closer to the tree and kneeling in front of it. I did the same and we looked at each other.

"Jonathan!" Nancy called.

We didn't get an answer and couldn't find him anywhere.

"I'm going in." She said taking her bag off her back.

I put a hand on her shoulder and she looked at me.

"I will." I sighed.

"Lee..." She started.

"No. I don't want you to get hurt and me to have not done anything. It's better if I get hurt than you." I looked at her pointedly.

"What about your mom?" She questioned.
