Let me explain the origin of where the thoughts of this one is coming from...
Riverdale.
Can I just say, the basis of what you are about to read, the last few episodes are brutal and I hate how they leave you on that - oh so wonderful - cliffhanger.
[ Side Note ] Fear not new reader, no spoilers will be given out so feel free to continue reading... if not then just skip to the next "chapter" of our blogging journey.
However, those of you who have seen Riverdale probably know exactly what I'm talking about.. I kindly ask you to please give no spoilers to those who have not. It ruins the whole emotion aspect of the show if they know it's coming.
All shows do this though. They throw some type of crazy twist at you right after they make you believe everything was going to be all right. Then you're left pondering on the ending and what may or may not happen. The cherry on top of all of this? They following season to answer all your questions you're forced to wait for. Which leaves you in suspense even longer.
Now, out of the ranting phase and into the logical one. All show series must do things like this to keep their viewers wanting more... it's the same with books. If your writing a series and your first book is complete trash no one is going to want more BUT if you leave it on a crazy cliffhanger that will keep them interested, they'll come back for more.
A bunch of best-selling series do this. Haven't you noticed?
Personally, I think it may be harder for some to notice it when their favorite series has all the seasons out or all the books out. That case, what may have been a crazy cliffhanger for us... they'll be given the answers to with the click of a button or turn of a page in a new book.
But just because a bunch of series do this and it's a director/author favorite technique does not mean we hate it any less.
On a different note; Who all is also is hating the last few episodes of Riverdale? If you haven't seen it.. what in the world are you doing?! Go watch it... now!
