Actually, the only thing that you need to know is that random crap happens, the chaos emeralds were crushed and sent the gang to an alternate dimension, Shadow from the previous dimension likes to hang out with Sonic and Tails, Dave has every job ever, Silver is the best, Knuckles lost an emerald shard in the ocean, Mephiles is out and ready to be creepy, Sonic and Shadow beat Sonic 3, the purple gem is overpowered, and Shadow is no longer intimidating because of his voice actor. I think that about sums it up.
