I made a quick sandwich with some spare chicken, mayo, lettuce and tomato and was about to eat it while going downstairs, but Hannah stopped me:
- Just remembered... There was a guy that came over asking about you, at lunch hour.
- Yeah, about that... He's the guy that's now dead.
- Oh, so a murderer just casually visited my house? Isn't that great? - She wandered off, saying something within the lines of "I could've been killed... Why am I so distracted?"
- Honey, I'm going ok? - She just waved her hand with her back turned to me. - Bye! Love ya! - I said, sending her a kiss with my hand.
I ate the sandwich as fast as humanly possible while going down the stairs of my building. I lived on the 5th floor of a yellowish building, and even though I could've taken the elevator, I like to exercise my legs by going through 5 flights of stairs. My car was parked just in front of the building, and I entered it and went to the Police station. Since nobody was actually supervising whoever came in through the front door, I made my way to the morgue, where a red-haired woman was autopsying a body.
- Is that... Is that Mr. Nature?
- Who? - She turned around. I had never seen such beauty in someone. Her hair wasn't exactly red haired. No, it was actually brown, but the tip of it was a darkish red tone. Her eyes were brown, her nose perfect, her lips were in a perfect red-ish tone. Her skin was like mine, maybe a bit clearer than mine. She also checked me out. To be honest, in that moment I didn't even remember Hannah... I just had my eyes on her.
- I don't know his name... But he came today, didn't he? The guy that got in the car accident by the beach...
- Yes, that's him. Casey Spiegel... According to his driver's license, he was 43 years old.
- What did he die of?
- Well, someone ordered an autopsy for this guy, but don't know why. The car accident was what killed him.
- Pretty sure that's wrong. - I contested the idea.
- Really? And what would you know about it, Mr.?
- Atton. Detective James Atton. - I raised my hand to shake hers.
- Maggie. - she said, shaking my hand. - Maggie Ramsey. Mr. Atton, I still don't understand what you're doing here.
- I don't believe it was an accident. - She was opposite of me on the autopsy table, with the corpse splitting us. My face got closer to hers. - Don't tell this to anyone but I knew him before he died. And he confessed a double homicide to me, and he said there were partners. I don't remember a lot more of what he said, though.
- So you think he was silenced... How?
- Can you see if he was poisoned? Not talking about normal poisons... Any other unusual substances... I remember his car smelled like chemicals...
- Fine... You were on the beach, uh? Working for the tan? - I smiled at her. - Are you single? - I figured I would benefit from having someone inside the Police Station that would give me answers, so I said "Yes". - Cool. Tomorrow night. At 8 P. M. Grab some dinner with me.
- Sure. - I said. - Anyway, do give me the autopsy report afterwards, ok?
- Of course. See you tomorrow.
I didn't think it through. Technically, I was cheating on Hannah with some woman I had just met. But if that meant I would figure something about the case, I was willing to risk it. And also, Maggie was really beautiful, and she seemed nice. So I wasn't exactly making a mistake.
Things with Hannah weren't going that well, since we barely did anything together, and I was having second doubts about the wedding. It wasn't gonna work, and I could see that. So when I got home, I opened the door, sat down with her on the couch, and looked her deep into her eyes, saying:
- We need to talk...

In case you are commenting violently about this decision (I SEE YOU TYPING IN THE COMMENTS Dark_WolfGirl), consider this is a work of fiction and also consider that James' personality shows he's arrogant and a dick, even though he's really smart. So yeah! It's now in the plot. No turning back.
Anyway, hope you enjoying the story! Bye!
