Anne was in her fourth period class, trying to learn. She couldn't concentrate on what the teacher was saying, knowing Maddie was suffering in the principal's office. But her fear rose 1,000 times when she heard the phone ring and it was for her. She rose from her chair and answered. Just her luck it was the principal calling her down.

When Maddie got there Maddie was gone. Melanie and Mr. Isaacs were waiting.

"Girls, you don't want to be punished just as much as I don't want to punish you. But cheating is wrong and so is falsely accusing someone of doing so. Show me your notes, Melanie." Melanie pulled out her big blue binder. She passed it to him.

"Where are your notes on the last chemistry lab your were being tested on?"

"I lost them."

"Well then how did you study?"

"I didn't

"You only did the first question on the test. You got it right and it was on that lab. I have no choice, but to assume you cheated. As for you, Anne, you can go back to class." Anne was filled with a mixture of relief and guilt.
