Helia's POV
The knife had missed the center of the target by centimeters. I frowned. I was so close! I dragged myself over to the target to retrieve my throwing knifes and try again.

Here at the academy we were trained to be thieves. The king and queen of the land were terrible so we had to pick on them. You know, steal a gem or two.

I wasn't born here but I've been here as long as I remember. My strange orange hair and turquoise eyes can stun someone if they see me for the first time.

I stood back at the line and held my arm back ready to throw. I saw movement at the corner of my eye but ignored it. That was a mistake. Right as I let the knife fly it froze and fell to the ground.

"Use the wind, girl. It can help."

I turned and found myself face to face with Cresta the leader and creator of the academy. No one knows where she can from. She has millions of secrets that almost nobody knows the answers to. She has magical powers and wings that actually fly!

I nodded stiffly hoping she would notice me and now my chance to prove myself.
I turned toward the target and reached back my arm. I checked Cresta eyes to see where they were looking but I couldn't tell.

I took a deep breath and threw the knife. It seemed as if it were slow motion when it moved through the air but everything came back when it hit the target.

There was a loud slamming noise and the knife was lodged right in the center of the target. I turned to face Cresta and see her expression but I noticed her already with another student. I sighed. Was there nobody to see my work except the times I fail?

"Woah! You hit it in the center!"

I snapped my head to the sound of the voice and saw Star, another student, walking towards me. She also had strange hair except her hair was the color lavender.

Star's real name is Starney but, she hates that name and prefers ALWAYS to be called Star. She came to the academy when she was about 4. She claims her parents left her to fend for herself but, she is friends with virtually everyone!

"Ya. Cresta helped though." I answered. She smiled back and then asked, "Could you help me? My throwing stars can hit the target but they won't stick!"

I thought about the request but before I could answer the lunch bell rang. Everyone formed a single line and headed into the meal hall.

When everyone got their food package, I left to find a few empty tables left. I sat down on an empty table farthest from the Meal Hall entrance and sat their alone until a recognizable face started to walk toward me. Ashton!

My best friend brought his package over and sat down next to me. I looked at him and smiled.

"What's up Helia?" He asked before taking a big bite of food. "Nothing much" I mumbled with a mouth full of food and a smile.

"So, what's up with you?" I asked him when I finally swallowed my food. He held up his hand to signal he had a mouth full then swallowed.

Sword training is going nicely and Cresta says I might be able to train with the higher classes!" he answered with a large grin.

The first thing I felt was excitement for my best friend but then, of course, jealousy crept in.
I smiled the biggest I could trying to be happier more than jealous.

Thankfully, Ashton didn't notice and walked over to grab an apple on the counter. Right when I was about to stand up and leave for training Brandon, a guy who all the girls liked, came up to me and smiled. "Hey Helia" asked Brandon. "What?" I questioned trying to sound interested. "That last dagger you threw was amazing but, you need to aim your wrist like this." He showed me a swift move of his wrist and blushed.

"Thanks for noticing! I'll try that next time!" When Brandon left, I finished my package and threw it away, then went outside to continue training
