Helia's POV
After lunch I headed toward the dormitory to settle in my room. After all, this was my period of free time. Sadly Ashton's free time was 2 hours from now and mine ended in 1 hour. That meant we couldn't see each other then. Wah.
As soon as I got into my room I shut the door and ran over to the glass terrarium I had. It was all fogged up, probably from me not cleaning it. Mental Note: Clean terrarium. I peeked inside and there he was. My pet snake, Aragus.
Now here at the academy we could have pets and for those of us that wanted some, Cresta created them for us. After a while she was tired of creating them and their necessities constantly so she opened a shop in the courtyard. That's where I got Aragus.
Aragus was brand new and only a few months old. Snakes like him grow very slowly and he was still very young. Still he was at least half a foot long! I loved his colors most though. They were one reason why I bought him.
He had a lavender belly with some small spots of darker purples and the rest of his body was a shade of ultramarine. It seemed whenever he moved his wondrous colors would sparkle!
As I continued to admire my snake, I suddenly remembered I had limited time. I placed a rat in his tank and ran over to my small desk and got out a piece of paper.
I began to write about today's events like I always did every day. When I was done I opened another drawer and set the paper on top of what could be hundreds of others. This was how I could go back and remember my days, whether they were sad, happy, or even frustrating.
These papers flooded memories back to me. I suddenly wanted a certain one. I began to search through the papers until I found the one I was looking for. Yes, the day I met Ashton. That was a glorious day. One of my first letters. I began to read it.
Thursday, April - Letter to Self #34
Dear Future Helia,
Today a new person came. It was a boy named Ashton. He had dark skin and brown hair and eyes. People say he was 2 years old when Cresta saved him (which she did) but nobody is sure but Cresta herself. I don't want to talk to him. He's a boy and he might be mean. It could be bad... ish? I want to know all his secrets now. Maybe I should talk to him. Hmmmm. He kinda looks nice enough. I think I should let Star talk to him first. Star is much, much better at this stuff. Aria might also but she doesn't talk to make friends, she talks to warn you you're about to lose. Ha! Silly Aria you could still lose someday. I wish. What if Ashton fought Aria?! That would be-BRRRRR! The bell rang in my face. I jumped up. The hour flew. It was time to go back to training. I shoved the letter into the drawer and grabbed some equipment I dropped down on my bed.
I gave Aragus a goodbye pat as I passed him and ran out the door toward the courtyard, ready to rush into class.
