The obnoxious ticking in my brain wouldn't go away. It was nearly time to get up and my last day of school was nearly here. Everyone in this town has one of these stupid things so I don't understand why mine is blank! Unless my soulmate isn't born yet but that would mean I'd be 18 years older than him. No. Maybe they live out of this state. Maybe even country. I rolled onto my side and watched the sun rise. So much for sleep. That's been my life lately, no sleep just stress.
So obviously tomorrow we have that stupid mock graduation day and we get to leave. Thank the Lord. I looked over at the time. 6:29. I rolled my eyes and rolled my body off my double bed. The silent house groaned as I stepped on the floor boards. My feet wriggled as they adjusted to the cold floor. I made my way over to my door and into the bathroom.
I washed my face and my body in the shower and left my hair. My short brown hair was a mess but I didn't feel like washing it. After getting out of the shower I brushed my teeth and then put on my make up. It was just a light coverage of foundation, concealer, powder and a little bronzer to bring dimension back into my face. I added highlighter to my cheeks and drew on my eyebrows. I quickly shoved on some mascara and gave my messy hair some curls.
I got into my room and picked out an outfit. I don't want to wear a dress but god knows I'll have too. I puffed out some air and looked through my small closet overflowing with clothes. I pulled out some contestants and after feeling satisfied with my choice shoved it on.
The two piece dress sat perfectly hugging my waist and curves just above my belly button while the top sat above the skirt hugging my boobs and making them a nice shape. The top was a white halter neck that had little white tassels hanging from the bottom. The skirt was plain white pencil type skirt that went to just below mid thigh and had a risqué slit on the one of the sides.
I grabbed my school bag, phone and the shoes I would be wearing and went downstairs to get some food. I raided the empty cupboards to come across some out of date bread. I wrinkled my nose up at it but stuck it in the toaster anyway. It went bad yesterday it should be fine...
I checked the time after slipping on a pair of black heels. From the corner of my eye I seen my favourite black chocker, it was a piece of black see through lace and had a gold crescent moon that you could remove if you didn't want it on. I took the moon off and clipped the chocker on.
I heard a honk from a car horn which made me rush to the front door. I locked the door and turned to see my best friend in her car bickering with my other best friend in the back. I giggled to myself and rushed to the car.
"Hey girlies," I said after closing the door. They stopped their petty fight and smiled at me. "Hey," they said almost in unison. Carla backed out of the driveway and we made our way to school for the last time.
"It's weird to think this is our last day of school." Bailey said while looking out the window. I nodded. "Honestly, 15 years of my life just to go on to university!" Both friends laughed. "True," Carla said keeping her eyes on the road. "Speaking of university did you get your letter yet?" Bailey asked from the back. "Actually I grabbed my letters on the halway and put them in my bag." I said looking through my bag for the three letters I shoved in on the way out.
"Yo," I said. "I think this is the letter" I said getting a little excited as well as the other girls. I quickly ripped open the letter. The schools name was wrote on the top write corner CSULB I read through the letter quickly and read out the bit confirming I got a place. "We'd like to congratulate you on getting a place in our university to major in nursing!" I said hyped up. We all screamed. We pulled into the school and sat in silence as tears welled up in my eyes.
I can't believe this is happening to me.
I looked over to the girls and theirs smiles hadn't gone. They looked at me in awe. I smiled back. "Com'mon let's go graduate," Carla said removing the keys to the car. And that's exactly what we did.
The mock graduation ceremony took place in our tiny theatre room (the only place with a small stage). Our real graduation is in a couple days. But for now this is all I need. My friends and the fresh air of being by the sea. Which of course was where me and my friends visit. Long beach was hot today. So what else better to do as you finish school than relax in the sun?
"Guys," I heard Carla say quietly. Me and bailey sat up from our spots to look at her. As I adjusted from dark to light through my sunglasses I could see her look down at her wrist. "What?" I asked. "M, my timer." She stuttered. I went over to her and peered over her shoulder.
Yesterday she was freaking out about how she only had a couple hours to meet her soulmate. She had 30 seconds and counting until she finally found them. A wave of jealousy washed over me. I watched her get up as she walked towards a couple people. I seen someone stand up too. He looked up and we first locked eyes. Then both Carla and him locked eyes and a piercing sound from both their bands rang in three Beeps. I covered my ears like most people but the soulmates a couple feet from me where too happy to notice. I turned away and let her have her moment.
I looked at mine. Blank.
I rolled my eyes. What was I expecting. For it to magically start counting down to zero. Wise up. I know better. Both me and bailey looked at each other. "Should we leave?" She asked. I nodded. "Best give them privacy." I said. We got up and wiped the sand of our asses and lifted our towels. I grabbed my bag. "Carla," I said raising my voice so she would hear me. She turned. "We're going." She nodded in return.
I called an uber because Carla drove us. "Aye, our uber driver is hot," I said jokingly to bailey. She laughed along. I dropped her off at her house and the uber took me to mine. I thanked him and paid through Apple Pay.
I unlocked the door knowing no one would be in. I sighed a little and threw my stuff at the side of the door. I walked into my empty living room and turned on the tv in the corner. I sat on the old sofa that we had for years.
I checked the time on my phone and decided to make something to eat. I grabbed the mac n cheese from our cupboard and and pot and started to make myself some food.
After eating I went to my room and got changed into something rather than a dress. I put on my distressed denim shorts and a white crop top. Again checking the time. Hospital visiting hours start in 10 minutes. I quickly grabbed my shoes shoving them on as fast as possible.
I went downstairs and lifted the keys to our car and locked the door to the house on my way out. The hot air of our car slowly creeped out as I got into the car. I turned the car on and got the AC on and windows down to try stop me from melting!
I hummed to random songs and tapped the beat on the steering wheel most of the way to the hospital. I parked the car and made my way into the tall standing building that had people that looked like patients standing out smoking, or having a chat with a friend. I smiled at a few but a frown replaced it as I stepped in and smelled an all to familiar smell.
