“Cole?” the woman asked again “Are you okay?”

I stared into her deep green eyes, “Of course I’m not okay!” I yelled “I’m dead!”

I buried my face into my hands.  The woman sat down next to me and began rubbing my back.  I sucked in air between sobs, before realizing I didn’t really need to breathe anymore.

“It’ll be okay,” She whispered.

After about a half hour of sobbing, I stopped.

“Where am I?” I asked quietly, tears still streaming from my crystal blue eyes.

“At the Hospital of Unwell Accidents,” She stated, “I’m Felicity, I drowned.”

Felicity then leaned her arm towards me and I gently grabbed it.  Since, I was just informed that I was dead and I was technically a ghost; I figured my hands would go through her arm, but they didn’t.

Her arm had an ocean  tattooed down it.

“You’ll get one too, Cole” Felicity stated “However, considering your situation, your marking will have a plane on it.”

I shot her a confused look.

“Its a label, tells other unseens and the mortal unseens how your light went out.”

“What is this place?” I glared down at my feet.

“It’s a hospital, for people who have recently died,” Felicity said “Sometimes people go out pretty beaten up.  We fix ‘em up, give ‘em some mental help if they need it, and send ‘em on their way.”

“To heaven?”

“Not exactly, there is no ‘heaven’ just the Unseen world.”

“Whats an ‘Unseen’.” I raised my eyebrow

“A ghost, Cole,” Felicity said “There are also Mortal Unseens who can see us, but they’re very rare.”

“Oh,” I sighed “What are you doing in this hospital?”

“I’m your nurse, I take care of you and become your friend,” Felicity grabbed one of my hands.

“But, I feel like I know you; from the picture-”

“On the wall in hallway to your bedroom” Felicity finished my sentence.

My mouth dropped open, “Can you like read my mind or something?”

“Unfortunately, no,” She frowned “I’m your great-great grandmother; I am also your guardian angel.  Everybody except the Mortal Unseen have a guardian angel, and I’ve been looking after you since you were just born.”

I looked down at my shoes

“See, Cole, when someone is born an Unseen takes over the position of their guardian angel, but you are not to choose someone until fifty years after your death, sometimes longer.”

“Will I get one?” I looked into her eyes.

“Yes, Cole, you will when the time is right.”

“How will I know when the time is right?” I asked

“You just will,”

I twiddled my thumbs together, “This may be a rude question, but how come you don’t look old,”

“Not rude at all,” She flashed a grin “When you become an Unseen, you stop aging.  And you can choose the age you would like your body to stay at.  Your body, however, will stay sixteen forever.  You will eternally be sixteen, Cole.”

Tears welled in my eyes again.  I wanted to see Estella.  I wanted to hold her in my arms.  I wanted to kiss the top of her head and watch stupid Disney movies with her.

“Estella is fine,” Felicity whispered.  “You can even meet her guardian, if you’d like.”

I laughed, “You really can read minds.”
