                                   CHAPTER THREE:

The hospital room was as devoid of beauty as Logan was of hope. Its walls were simply cream, not peeling or dirty, just cream. There was no made decorations at all to beautify the room. Charlotte’s bed was perhaps once green, the kind that reminded people of spring-time and hope, but it’s faded so much that the hue is insipid.

Charlotte lay there quietly with her eyes closed, Logan sat by her bed matching her breaths to the beeping of the machines that surrounded it. It’s been a week since the incident,

‘’our lives has always been without drama filled with love, dreams and hopes’’ Logan said while holding charlotte hand,

‘’we have got a beautiful daughter and you have to wake up for her, and me because we need you’’ he continued as he cocked his head.

‘’we need to take on the world together painting it with our bliss, I can’t do it alone’’ he said with tears now rolling down his chick.

‘’MR Rutherford’’ the doctor called out from the door as she walked in,

‘’why don’t you go home and get some rest’’ she said to him as she stood by the bed carrying out routine checkups on charlotte.

‘’I want to be here when she wakes up’’ he replied wiping his chick clean.

‘’not to kill your hopes or anything of that sort, her condition is critical and I think it's going to take a while before she wakes up’’ she said while she took notes.

It wasn’t long, not even up to a minute before MR and MRS Anderson walked in. James and Marian, Charlotte’s parents. They both made their way in,

‘’oh my poor baby boy’’ Marian said walking over to Logan and gave him a peck on his cheek and proceeded to do same to Charlotte, giving her a peck on her forehead.

‘’how are you Logan?’’ James asked as he placed down the flowers he brought on the table.

‘’am fine,’’ Logan replied with a smile but his eyes told a different story, emitting pain and sadness through them, you need not be a mind reader to know he is going through hell.

‘’how’s she?’’ James asked looking at the doctor,

‘’no Improvements sir, but we do hope she comes around soon’’ she replied him as the muscles in her face tightened.

‘’I would take my leave now and I would be back later to check on her’’ she said as she walked out.

‘’this is so unfair’’ Marian said as the doctor walked out,

‘’life is just so unfair’’ she continued with teary eyes as she stroked Charlotte’s hair with one hand and gave Logan a pat on the back with the other.

‘’Marian pull yourself together’’ James said to her while he set the flowers,

‘’if we are both in tears who’s goanna be strong for Logan?’’ he asked,

‘’We can’t all be sobbing’’ he ended.

‘’have you guys been to see Annabel?’’  Logan asked,

“About that….’’ James said clearing his throat,

“we decided on something’’ Marian added.

‘’you’re in no condition to take care of a baby, so… we decided to take her just for the main time until Charlotte recovers or you’re back on your feet’’ James explained.

"OK fine"

‘’wait what?’’ Logan ask realizing what they had just said,

‘’you can’t take her… she’s…’’ he said but was interrupted by Marian,

‘’we are not taking her from you, you can come by anytime to check on her’’

‘’with your work and current state we think it’s better this way’’ she continued.

‘’son… it’s all good, we are only trying to help you out here and she’s also our grandchild. We know you’re great with kids but you’re currently not in the right state of mind to care for one, and a baby at that.’’ James explained.

‘’ok… cool, whatever’’ Logan said bowing his head in tears.

                                           *****

Three months passed and still no improvements from Charlotte but Logan was still filled with hope and even got a dog and named her Scott, weird right? Naming a female dog Scott but cool.
On a Monday morning he walked in the ‘’KEEP THE FAITH’’ orphanage home where he worked with his dog 🐶 scott,

‘’hey there welcome’’ Constant said as Logan walked in. She works there as well, she’s tall with blonde hair, blue eyes and a pointy nose with freckles on both her cheeks, probably in her late twenties.

‘’hey there Scott’’ she said going down in attempt to pet the 🐶, Scott’s eyes were wider than that of a baby and she tilted her head one way and then the other as Constant approached her.

‘’I can’t imagine what goes on in her head’’ Constant said as Scott waged her tail🐩.

‘’you took down the ‘’help needed’’ sign outside, why?” Logan asked,

‘’because we found one’’ she replied standing up.

‘’who?’’ he asked,

‘’her name’s Natalie, she seems really cool. I think you’re goanna like her and oh she’s transgender’’ she said with a smile.

‘’that’s cool’’ he replied,

‘’and I know how much you have wanted to meet someone who was trans.’’ He added as a tall figure walked in.

‘’hey Jake is that cigarette I smell?’’ Logan asked the young lad.

‘’I don’t know’’ he replied in a reluctant tone. Jake was seventeen and Italian with green eyes and black wavy hair, a perfectly tanned skin and the face of a god👌.

‘’look at me when am talking to you’’ Logan said pulling him back,

‘’get your hand ✋of me man’’ he said pulling away.

‘’what’s your deal?’’ Logan asked,

‘’we’ve got younger kids here who look up to you and that’s my only fear.  I don’t want you hanging out with those guys no more’’

‘’what guys?’’ Jake asked,

‘’seriously? You want me to mention them? You know fully well the bad company you keep’’ Logan replied,

‘’well I don’t need you worrying about me no more, you’re not my dad. Am soon going to be eighteen and i would be out of your hair’’ he said as he walked away. 🙆

‘’holy shit👀, he’s goanna cause a lot of trouble’’ Constant said.
