Chapter 1: New School

AUTUMN'S POV

"Autumn, are you sure you want to do this?" My mom asked, looking over at me.

"Yes mom. I'm going to try boarding school for one year. If it doesn't work out, I'll go back to public school. It's a new experience and I feel like I'll be happier." I said, looking out the window at the huge school.

"Alright Autumn, if this is what you want."

"It is." I said, nodding. My mom had driven me out to California from our home in Iowa. I thought that was sweet of her, even though I could've just taken a plane. I got bullied a lot in Iowa, to the point where I was severly depressed and skipping school. No one wanted to be friends with the emo kid. All my friends ditched my when I started changing.

I looked online for about a month for somewhere I could go to get away from that horrid town and state. Then, I came across Ridgeway Academy in Los Angeles, California. I read good reviews about this school and, once I had all my information, I proposed the idea to my parents. After thinking it over for a while, they decided to let me go and enrolled me.

"Do you need help carrying your stuff into your room?"

"No mom, I'm fine. Thanks." I said, hugging her and kissing her cheek. I got out of the car and popped open the trunk, pulling out the two suitcases, backpack and duffle bag that held all of my things. I waved to her as I walked into the main office.

"Can I help you?" A lady sitting behind a desk asked.

"I'm a new student here. Autumn Walker."

"Well, let me see." She said, looking through her computer for my name. "Here you are, Autumn Walker." She said, printing a piece of paper out. "Here's your schedule and the room numbers are right here. Your dorm is located in Maxwell Hall, room 208. Here's a map." She said, stapling a map to my schedule. "And here's the rule book. Basics are, no dorms are co-ed, males are to be out of the girls dorms by ten o'clock and vise versa. If caught, you have the chance of suspension or expulsion, depending on your record. You can read over the rest of the rules yourself. Hope you have a great year here at Ridgeway Academy, go panthers!" She smiled, fist pumping the air, handing my stuff to me.

I thanked her and walked out of the office, flipping to the map. I found where I was currently and where my dorm was. I walked around for five minutes, officially lost. I groaned loudly, throwing my head back in defeat.

"Why does this school have to be so big." I groaned, looking at the map again. I continued walking until I bumped into someone, falling flat on my butt.

"Oh shit, I'm so sorry." The male voice said, extending a hand out to me.

"It's fine." I said, grabbing his hand and using it to pull myself up. I looked up at him and smiled at him.

"I've never seen you before, are you new?"

"Yeah. I'm from Iowa."

"Awesome, I'm from...well here. What grade are you in?"

"Tenth."

"Me too!" He smiled. "I'm Tony." He said, extending his hand again, this time for a hand shake.

"I'm Autumn." I said, shaking his hand. "Do you know your way around this place?"

"Like the back of my hand." He smiled.

"Do you think you could help me find my dorm?"

"Of course." He said as I handed him my papers. He looked through it before nodding. "I know where Maxwell Hall is, follow me." He said, taking one of my suitcases from me.

"Thanks." I said, following him around the corner, where my dorm stood.

"Here you are, Maxwell Hall."

"I swear I passed that building five times!" I exclaimed.

"A lot of the buildings look alike, don't worry, you're not the first new kid to get lost." He said, looking down at my schedule.

"Hey, we have some classes together!" He smiled, pointing to the paper.

"Like what?"

"Uhm, music, science, math, health, english and history."

"Awesome." I smiled.

"Here, let's exchange numbers." He said, pulling out his phone. I did the same and we switched phones, putting our numbers into each other's phones before handing them back. We walked into the dorm and to the elevator, pushing the up button.

The doors opened and we stepped on, pressing two. We waited in silence as the doors closed and lifted us up a floor. The doors opened and we walked out, walking a couple rooms down until we found my room.

"Well, I'll let you get settled. It was nice meeting you Autumn."

"You two Tony. See you tomorrow in class."

"You too." He said, heading back towards the elevator. I grabbed both of my suitcases and slowly approached the open door, peeking in. I saw a girl making a bed, her back turned to me. I walked further in and cleared my throat. She turned around and smiled at me.

"Are you my roomate?"

"I guess." I shrugged.

"It's so great to meet you! I'm Rachel!" She exclaimed, bouncing over to me.

"I'm Autumn."

"Such a pretty name!" Rachel was actually very pretty. She was about five foot so I was a few inches taller than her. She had long black hair, with bangs that swooped across her forehead.

"Thanks." I said, setting my stuff down on my side of the room.

"So, did you go here last year? You don't look familiar." She said, going back to her bed.

"I'm new."

"Awesome, you'll love it here. What grade are you in?"

"I'm a sophmore."

"Awesome, me too!" She said, before turning back to me. "Let me see your schedule." She said and I handed it to her, beginning to make my own bed.

"We have creative writing, math, health and science together, awesome!"

"Great." I smiled. I felt like I was really going to like having Rachel as a room mate. I felt like I was really going to like it here at Ridgeway.
