"Hey, Paz, you're going to like this article."
Pacifica looked up at Gideon as he tossed the newspaper across the counter to her. It was so fast, she almost didn't catch it before it fell to the ground.
"When you say that I'm going to like it, I assume you're being sarcastic and I'm not going to like it," Pacifica replied, shuffling the paper into place.
"Correct, and this time it's bigger than just a spelling mistake in the title," Gideon said, sitting down at the desk."
She took a look at the title first. FAMOUS PSYCHIC ROBBIE RADIANCE SPOTTED WITH FAMELESS GIRLFRIEND.
Pacifica frowned. She already did not like where this article was going to be going. "Why is my sister's love life plastered all over the town newspaper?" She didn't even tell me she was dating him.
"Because she's apparently dating Robbie Radiance," Gideon said. "He's right now one of the biggest hits in town. Of course they're going to want to report about if he's apparently dating someone. Did you know about this?"
"Not really," Pacifica said. "I mean, we all knew they were hanging out, but I wasn't aware they were, together."
Pacifica looked back down at the article. Last night, Robbie Radiance is spotted with town newcomer Wendy Pines at the movie theater, gong to see The Destroyer. . .
She rolled her eyes and continued to read on, each sentence going into incredible detail about the evening. Pacifica couldn't help but furrow her brow in disgust as she read some of the things they had said about her sister.
"This is insane," Pacifica commented.
"I know," Gideon said. "Has she seen the article?"
"She's not into newspapers the same way I read them, and I don't believe she had, or we would've heard something," Pacifica said. "But, honestly, why would anyone want to write such terrible things about a young teenage girl?"
"Are you guys talking about the newspaper this morning?"
Both Gideon and Pacifica looked up, and Candy had arrived, a bagel in her hand. "Sorry I was late. But I did read the paper. It's awful!"
"I know," Gideon replied.
"'Fameless' isn't even a word," Pacifica commented quietly.
"Has Mister Pines seen the article yet?" Candy asked.
Pacifica froze. While her Great Uncle Fiddleford wasn't always a warm, caring figure from what she had seen, she could not imagine him being happy when he sees Wendy on the front page of the newspaper with Robbie, or about the things they said. Pacifica didn't want to predict his reaction.
"Not yet, I believe," Pacifica answered.
"Good," Candy said. "I think this is something we should leave to ourselves. Mister Pines will overreact once he sees that, and we need him calm right now."
"Makes sense," Gideon said. Pacifica nodded.
"Don't worry, I'm going to write to the Gravity Falls paper for an apology about what they wrote about Wendy," Candy said, upon seeing Pacifica's slightly worried expression.
That did help, but it wasn't what she was worrying about. What she was worried about was where Wendy was right now. She hadn't seen her at breakfast. She needed to see her on this issue.
"Uh, I need to run out," Pacifica said, hopping off the counter and walking quickly towards the door.
"Okay, but-" Candy started.
