Chapter 8

Jane continues to pay off her debt to Austin. Austin asks Jane to clean the swimming pool, Austin catches a severe cold after rescuing Jane from falling into the swimming pool. The next evening, Austin  has Jane  come over to make steak for him. He envisions Jane cooking up Australian top sirloin steak and Jane appreciating the gift he gives her for a job done well; however, the events don't go as he envisions.

Austin messages Jane to appear at his house at 6 am to clear leaves from his swimming pool. Jane arrives tired, having worked through the night to get the proposal for project done by today. Her lack of sleep causes Jane to fall into the pool. Austin  quickly dives in to rescue her. She screams for help and struggles in the pool even Austin has her in his hold. He repeatedly tells Jane he's got her. However, she keeps screaming for help. "Look at me!" Austin commands. Jane  stops struggling and looks at him. "I won't let go," Austin says .Jane  calms down. She relaxes and lets Austin take her out of the pool.

Austin  dries Jane  at the sofa. The activity of sitting whilst feeling cold as Austin dries her hair has Jane fall asleep on the spot. Austin  brings her to the bed.

Jane wakes up a few hours later. She finds a canister on the bedside with a note from Austin telling her to head to the doctor if she still felt unwell and to work if she felt fine. He also asks her to drink some ginger tea that's in the canister—tea he made for her before he went to work.

Jane recovers and is okay after a few hours of sleep. Austin , however, isn't.

Throughout the day, Austin  sneezes. When Jane goes over to Austin's place to make dinner for him, Austin complains of the food she made bland—even as she rectifies it by adding more salt. It is not until after dinner where Jane is about to head home that Austin shows he has caught a severe cold. Jane finds him in his bed, perspiring heavily and looking sick. She stays behind and takes care of Austin.

The evening after, Austin messages Jane to make steak for him. This comes after an irritable start to the day when Jane heads out in a rush after making him breakfast—forgetting to take the important puzzle that writes off her debt on the countertop—to go meet up with someone from The project (Wan Zi Yu). He's short-fused in meetings and finds Lily remaining beside him after her report irritating

. His request for Jane to come over to make him steak comes after Jane gets informed by her colleagues that Austin had changed the deadline of the project to two weeks—something that comes across to Jane as Austin having simply decided on the whim, but was important information that was given to Austin at his meeting with Chairman Luo the project Austin's mood becomes better when Jane hands over the ginger tea that she went out of her way to get for him. She gives it after she seeks Austin at the car parking lot, annoyed at him for shortening the deadline to complete the Yours project to two weeks instead of the three months he had initially given her.

Jane's gesture of buying him ginger tea has Austin show—what seems to be—his appreciation. It appears to be hidden behind his usual demanding ways: he messages Jane whilst she's out with Lily. He tells her to come over and make him steak in an hour. When Jane  acknowledges, he goes to a store selling items of various kinds to obtain squid slices (apparently, these are  Jane's favourite foods to eat as we find out later). The squid slices takes him a lot of effort to obtain: he obtains it through many, many, many lucky draws.

Austin's vision for how the night would play out is Jane frying him an Australian top sirloin steak. She'd pleasantly respond to his question of whether it is Australian top sirloin steak with saying it is and that she went to many supermarkets looking for it before he would present her with the squid slices that she likes to eat as a reward for a job done well and she would be so happy that she'd go over to hug him. Jane does present Austin with an Australian top sirloin steak; however, when he questions whether it is Australian top sirloin steak, Jane is rude: she tells him to not eat it if he doesn't believe her and that she got it at her family's restaurant.
