Everything Changed

Chapter Five

     After I leave Jake I keep walking until I reach the library. I go straight to the front desk. I know exactly what I am looking for, I just don't know where to find it.

     "May I help you?" The lady behind the desk asks me with a bright smile on her face. She looks to be in her late fifties or early sixties. She is quite pretty for her age with short blond hair and bright blue eyes.

     "Yes, I would like to see a copy of the newspaper from January 14th of this year."

     Without another word the librarian disappears into a small room to the left of her desk. Today's date is July 14th of 2017. The incident at our house had happened exactly 6 months ago.

     A few moments later the librarian returns with the newspaper in her hands. She must recognize me because she gives me a sad look and hands me the newspaper. I take the newspaper, find an empty seat and sit down. I open the paper and turn to the second page. I begin reading although I have already read this same article multiple times.

Boy Shot at His Home

Matt Jones was shot at him home in Cincinnati Ohio on January 14th. His older siblings Jake, 20, and Shay, 17, were home when the incident occurred. Shay and Jake were not harmed but 12 year old Matt Jones did not survive. The police say that the man who fired the shot that killed Matt was 19 year old Kevin Blue. Kevin had a record for robbery and and a few other small crimes. The police say that Kevin was going to rob the Jones' home but Matt was in the way and he shot him. We have a statement here from Kevin.

     This is always where I stop reading. I don't want to know what Kevin said to the police. I know that no matter what he says, Kevin did not kill Matt.
