Kevin actually used to be very close to our family. He was Jake's best friend for a long time. Until they had their big fallout. Before that he would come to the house a lot to hang out with Jake. Sometimes he would even babysit Matt. And other times he would come over just to talk to me or my parents. I recall one day that Kevin came over and I will never forget it. This incident occurred before these pictures were taken.
Since Kevin was only 2 years older than me we had always been pretty close. I had considered him one of my best guy friends, aside from my brothers of course. Kevin would come to the house and see me and we would hang out all the time.
"Hey Shayyyyy." Kevin said as he came into the living room where I was sitting. He comes and sits down beside me.
"Hey Kev." I say smiling, "You haven't been around in like a week, what've you been up to? Staying out of trouble, right?" I ask jokingly. His face turns serious and he looks away from me before responding.
"Shay... I think I have feelings for you." We're both silent.
"Oh." I respond, not really knowing what to say.
"I've always kinda liked you though, so this isn't something new. I just never really though to mention it because I was afraid that Jake would get mad. But I talked to him about it.... And......" He pauses again, turning to me.
"And?" I ask.
He laughs before responding. "Jake gave me his blessing basically... that is, if you want...." He pauses again, "Shay, would you go out with me?"
I smile and say yes.
This was the day that we started dating. It was the day after my 16th birthday last year. October 26th. The relationship was great and we were both happy. We broke up the day before Matt died. The way that the relationship ended may be one of the reasons that my little brother is dead. But I know that Jake played a part in this too. Kevin didn't decide to show up at the house that night just because we had broken up the day before, he was there because of Jake too.
