Rin was both tired and frustrated. Having worked on her project all week and spent the night finishing it up. The good thing is it was finally perfect, all she was left to do was present it.
At this moment Rin was suffering from one problem, (there wasn't a single taxi in sight). There were only two hours left before the end of the deadline for her to hand in her project.
At this thought she made up her mind (I am just gonna have to hitch hike a passing car). She begun to signal every car that moved in the direction she was going but no luck. After trying for about five minutes, a Jeep with two young men in it slowed down and stopped on the side of the road beside her.
Now that they were closer, Rin could tell that one of them was probably still in high school (Jerome). While the other one looked to be in his early 20s. She did not stop to consider because of the situation she was in. All she was focused on was getting to her destination before time. She jumped in the car and exclaimed, "Thanks, I am headed to the 'Northern Bridges' building. It should be a fifteen to twenty minute drive from here." She said this while looking into her bag pack making sure her things were intact. "Okay. Lucky you, we are headed in that direction." Said TK and he begun to drive. "I guess I'll tell you when we reach the building, though you can't miss it, it's the only skyscraper in the area made entirely of glass." Rin replied, her Japanese ascent clearly standing out. Even though Rin was born and raised in Japan, her English was almost perfect. She was not one of those cliché Asians with the bad spoken English.
"Sure, I'll keep an eye out." Said he while holding the steering wheel, driving her toward her destination. Rin could barely keep calm, despite her feeling fatigued anxiety was the only other feeling she had at that moment. But how could she not be anxious, this was something big for her it was the next great step in her life.
"Are you a writer?" Asked TK as he drove. "Yeah! I am, how could you tell?" She replied. "It's quite obvious, Northern Bridges is a publishing company, right?" Said he sure of what he was talking about. "Yeah." Rin replied not sure if starting a conversation was a good idea. She thought it would not hurt to talk to him. It would be a one time thing after all, its not like they were gonna exchange numbers and the like. After thinking about it, Rin decided she would just keep to herself and listen to music while waiting. They were almost at her destination either way, her time with him was almost over. No need to enjoy a good conversation with someone only to never get to see them again. Having made this decision, Rin pulled out her earphones and plugged them in.

She opened her eyes for a brief moment and closed them again. (I must have dozed off for a while, shouldn't have been too long seeing as we are still driving. We must really be close by now.) Rin thought all this and finally decided to open her eyes. When she did, it looked somewhat different but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. "Hey! How much longer?" She asked, quite anxious about handing in her script.
As if planned, both TK and Jerome looked behind in unison with confused looks on their faces. Rin was startled by this and backed away as much a her seat would allow her. "Woah! What's up with you guys. How long have we been driving anyway." She asked immediately pulling out her phone to check the time. It was 4pm, she could not believe her eyes. That is one whole hour past her deadline. (This is not happening, please let this be a dream.) She was confused not knowing if her eyes were telling her truth but unfortunately they were. She could now see what was different, the sun was in a completely different place and there was not a building in site. Had they really been driving three hours from that time she got in the car.
"What is wrong with you guys. How the fuck!? What the fuck?!" She screamed this filled with furry, you would be afraid to look her in the eyes because of the chance you would turn to stone. "Three fucking hours? It was a twenty minute drive! Only twenty bloody minutes?!" Her anger was unmeasurable at that moment. "I have missed my deadline because of you. Writing is my fucking dream! And you just ruined it for me!" TK and Jerome sat there in silence not having the words to say. What could they say, 'they got high and forgot' that is no excuse. All they could do is sit and listen to Rin and her fury. For a moment Rin continued to shout and throw her tantrum, then all of the sudden she just stopped. (These guys could be sick enough to kidnap me, maybe I should call the cops) the thought popped into her head out of the blue. But that could not be an option, if it was a kidnapping they would have tied her up by now or at least got her phone. She quickly discarded the idea and got back to being upset with them. "What do you have to say for yourselves?" Rin asked not having anything else to say at that moment.
"I am sorry!" Both TK and Jerome said tentatively not knowing if they were supposed to answer her question or not. She just looked at them not responding to their reaction to her question. Rin did not know how to react now, she was upset but there was not a thing she could do to change what had already happened. She was a good three hours drive away from home in the middle of nowhere. "I need you to take me back now. I am dead serious, turn this car around now!" said she. This was the only solution that she could think of at this moment. They just had to take her back, it was their fault for practically kidnapping her.
"Sorry princess, can't do that." Said TK bravely but even he knew that his bravery was stupid in this situation. Knowing this he still dared to go on to say, "Jerome and I are on a road to enlightenment, if you ask me I would say that fate brought you along for the ride. But that's just my stupid logic if you really want to go home so badly, we are about an hour or less from the nearest town you can catch a bus there if you want. Don't worry I'll buy your ticket and even buy you dinner if you don't mind. Just keep in mind, you decided to get in this car on your own."
Rin considered and she was quite hungry and honestly, the sooner she got rid of TK and Jerome the better. Though she was irritated by TK is remark on her getting inside the car by choice. "Okay, no problem. You guys are crazy anyway, 'road to enlightenment'. That's just stupid. Anyway, as long you buy me dinner and a ticket, I am fine." She said this and after a few minutes of silence Jerome spoke up,"Our road to enlightenment is not stupid. It is a ticket for us to get away from life for some time. Its a vacation for your mind and body its....." Before he could finish TK interrupted and finished his sentence for him. "It is what it is!.... It is what you want it to be."
