"Hi, my name is Ali. I will be your server today, can I start you off with some drinks?" I recite for the eighty-third time today. I scrambled to write down the table of 6s' drinks down. I practically ran to get the other orders out and get their drinks.
It is an extremely busy day at Jacks Burger Joint in an average town in Alabama and my coworker Veronica, who I absolutely dread, had called in sick. Leaving me with not only my half of the restaurant but hers as well. Plus the hostess quit last week, so I had to sit the people down, get them drinks and take their orders while maintaining the other customers. Now being 5'11 helps you get places faster but the number of people asking me for things is overwhelming. I have only been working for 7 hours today and had already served dozens of people. I had to carry three different orders at once just to keep up with the demand for food. But good news, I had yet to spill anything and had been polite to all of the customers so I had some pretty high tips. I sighed as I grabbed the tray of drinks, walking thru the crowded restaurant, careful not to run into anything. I smile brightly as I hand over the drinks.
"Are you ready to order or do you need a few more minutes?" I grab six straws out of my apron and set them on the table. I thank Jesus when they say they need a couple of minutes, and rush off to clean off tables and take others orders. I hurry back when five minutes have passed, take their orders and menus, putting them back in the cubby I got them from. Just as things are starting to calm down and the crowd of people grows smaller, I give the cook their order right as a large group comes in. I curse under my breath and walk to greet them with a bright smile on my face.
Hi, How many?" I ask, already counting in my head, eyes skimming the group.
"Nine" a gruff voice grunts out.
I look towards the voice, seeing the prettiest eyes I have ever seen. Violet, I think to myself those eyes are violet. I didn't think it was possible to have purple eyes but you learn something new every day. "Give me just a minute to get some tables together," I say turning my back to them and looking around the restaurant to scour some tables. I look in the back corner right next to the kitchen and see two tables that seat four and one that seats two people. I make my way through the sea of full tables and push the three tables together. I set menus and silverware down before I go back to the front. I lead the group to their table and let them get situated before saying
"Hi my name is Ali, I will be your server today. Can I start you off with some drinks?"
"Can I get a lemonade?" A girl (?) asks politely. I look up to see her short spiked hair and lip piercings and neck tattoo that says 'Bite Me' in bold letters
"Absolutely," I say writing quickly, looking up at the next person. I notice his striking blue eyes and bleach blonde hair with brown roots showing through.
"Water" He bites out, glaring at me, I suppress the urge to roll my eyes and move down the line.
Two more people say that they want water at the same time so I write a three in front of water. I see a pale guy with red hair and green eyes sitting right next to the darkest person I have ever seen in my life. Both are drool-worthy.
"we will have two sprites," A male says, also African American.Damn, he is gorgeous. The man next to him nods in agreement.
"I want a strawberry smoothie," a light voice requests. I see one of the most jaw-dropping girls I have ever seen in my life. Straight black hair, big brown eyes, tiniest waist and huge breasts.
"Okay, and you?" I say turning to Violet eyes, I can't help but study his features, with that strong jawline. ears twitching as he speaks and his tongue darting out to lick his lips occationally.
