Chapter 2: Broken

Chapter 2:

You try to resuscitate Ashleigh, but you have never done a first aid course, and you are unsuccessful, but you do know how to check for a pulse, and once you are certain that she is still breathing and her heart is still beating, you decided to run back upstairs and check what caused the boat to jolt so violently.

In your hurry, you completely forget the fact that you still aren’t in the best shape, and you trip over the top step and go sprawling onto the deck of the boat. You hear a crack as your arm hits the deck, and a burning sensation shoots up your arm – from your fingertips, to your elbow.

You roll over onto your side and for the second time today, you sit up with your ears ringing and your head spinning. You cradle your arm to your chest and crawl over to the railing of the boat; you sit up tall, and peer over the edge. The sight that confronts you makes your draw drop so far that are almost expecting it to hit the floor. You imagine your mother’s voice saying “Shut your mouth unless you want to catch flies in there!”

The thought of your mother makes you smile, but then you remember that you are stranded in the middle of nowhere. Your brain zooms back to the present issue, and that is the fact that your boat has collided with a huge island. You rub your eyes with your good hand, half expecting the mass of trees in front of you to disappear in a puff of smoke.

You know that it will be tough to get through the wilderness on your own let alone carrying your unconscious friend while you have an arm that you are beginning to suspect is broken, but you have no choice. At the moment this strange haven is your only option.

You are extremely lucky, as when you arrive back to where you guiltily left Ashleigh, she is beginning to stir, and you cross your fingers that you won’t have to carry or more accurately DRAG here across the floor of a treacherous jungle, on an unknown island.
