*two months later*

Alex got out of her seat that her and her friend in sit in every day on the bus. "Bye Alex!" Her friend waved. "Bye Cali, see you on Monday!" Alex replied and waved. Alex got off the bus and skipped home. She got inside and said, "I'm back from school." She closed the door and she heard her mother's sobs coming from the dining room.

She set her book bag down and went to the dining room. Alex saw her parents sitting at the table with lots of documents. Her mother sobbed while her father cried softly. "Mommy, daddy what's wrong?" Alex asked confused.

Her mother stopped crying and tried to put on a fake smile and said, "Nothing sweetheart." Alex looked at her father and she saw him have his hands over his eyes. "Mommy, daddy I'm going to unpack my book bag." Her parents nodded silently. She took her book bag and went to her room. She wondered what what they were talking about.

Later that day Alex's parents called her downstairs to discuss what happened. "Alex," her father began, "we don't have enough money to pay the bills and for the three of us." Alex's little smile faded. She never thought this would ever happen. Her mother  told her that that on the weekends she might do house cleaning or watch some of her friends kids . Alex went to her room and thinking of what to do.'Maybe I can sell lemonade!' She thought, but remembered that was fall. No one would want lemonade in this cool weather. She could not sell any of her toys because she only had one toy. A stuffed teddy bear she got for her birthday when she was four.

Then she remembered a place that she read in one of her books. It was called a foster home. She knew what that was and knew what they did there. Alex was left with a big choice. She didn't want to loose their house, so she took a deep breath and told her parents.

Of course they refused, but Alex told them that if they didn't do something they were going to loose their house and she said that when they get more money they can take care of her again. They was a long pause and then they agreed. They ran to Alex and hugged her with tears in their eyes.

"We promise to bring you when we have enough money." They told her.
