Walking into her first class Anna Turner immediately noticed that most of the students have already joined their future cliques. Feeling dejected, Anna heads towards the unoccupied seats at the front. Fiddling with her brown hair, Anna sat alone making sure to not let anyone see her insecurity. Attempting to pass the time, Anna pulled out a book from her bag and began reading it.
"The...Crucible? Look's kinda weird."
Anna looked up, adjusting her glasses, and met someone's blue gaze obstructed by their droopy blonde hair. The man, sheepishly smiling at her, sat himself next to her.
Exchanging pleasantries with one another, they both sat down and exchanged names. "I'm Anna!" she blurted out leaving the man smiling at her awkwardness.
"Well hello, Anna Turner, the names Chad Johnson." Chad chuckled before exchanging another smile with Anna. The teacher, having finally arrived, interrupted their conversation - but, not before stopping them from exchanging numbers. Throughout the year, the two had talked constantly whether it be through text, during class, or even while skipping class. Talking about a host of random things, ranging from favorite foods to families.
"My family's pretty well off, my father is an executive for a magazine and my mom writes for that same one." Chad informed while lounging about on the stairs with Anna. "How 'bout you Anna? How's your family?"
Anna, rolling her eyes at the the thought of her parents, began detailing her past "My dad's a photographer and my mom is a travel agent. They're never home and when they are they're always busy." she huffed, "I honestly got lucky being accepted here, especially since my parents pay more attention to my dog Ramen."
"I get you. My mom's always on a plane somewhere but, my dad's stuck with me." Chad informed noticing Anna's solemn face. "If you ever need someone, you've got me." Chad said wrapping his arms around his friend, comforting each other until the end-of-the-day bell rung.
A few weeks after the consolation, Anna and Chad were baking - failing spectacularly. "For someone who bakes you should really practice more." Anna remarked before throwing flour at Chad, causing a food fight to ensue.
But, their enjoyment ended quickly after that. It was Anna's birthday and she was beaming with excitement at the prospect of finally getting to spend some time with her absentee parents. But, as Anna stood there waiting for her parents to arrive, she was also patiently anticipating a call from her dear friend. Getting to a point where she was checking her phone every minute. When her parents did arrive, they grew increasingly annoyed at their daughter's divided attention and left to their room. After finally cussing out Chad in her head, Anna went to her parents room to see if they were done.
But, upon opening the door she was shocked to see her parents in their work attire heading for the front door. Telling Anna that something came up with work and they both had to leave and that they will go out for dinner another time. Completely forgetting the whole point of the dinner was for her birthday and not even saying that much.
Trudging to her room, Anna locked the door and silently stood in the dark room, the only source of illumination being the moon. Angry, frustrated, and confused Anna grabbed her bookbag and hurled it towards her vanity, shattering it into pieces. On the ground, illuminated by the moon's glow, was the Crucible. Anna slowly reached for the book and immediately dropped it. Running towards her wardrobe, Anna ripped and tore anything representing who she used to be. With black spray paint she sprayed everything and anything. Until she reached an etching on the broken mirror - a pentagram. Anna was long dead, she is now Anais.
